Derek Gripper, the guitarist who plays traditional Malian music with such expert prowess that he can perform the work of two players at once, does this song so fucking beautifully: Jarabi (Passion)

I had forgotten about it until recently and I could not for the life of me remember anything about his name or the song title. It took me a while to find it. I was literally losing sleep the other night trying to drag it from the dank recesses of my mind, and then finally it came to me. I was so joyed to have rediscovered it that I've been rinsing blue fuck out of it since. Incredible piece of music.

Struggling to reconcile the mellifluous nature of that with his name, which sounds like one in a wank-themed desolation in HS Art.

actually only 2 times, it did my head in after that

I've just listened to it and I'm not sure yet. Loved the middle eight bit but not sure about the rest. I may have to listen five times in a row to make sure.

Last tune I played over and over was Love Is Magic from John Grant's latest album of the same name.

Great return to form, with some lovely synth action and great lyrics. I absolutely love that chorus and the many vocal layers. Rich in melancholy, and Totes Relatable.

I don't think there's a bad cover of Guess I'm Dumb. This northern soul banger by Dani Sheridan has been on repeat today.

Noticing she has a similar voice to Helen Marnie from Ladytron.

Only You.

Both the Yaz version, but the possibly better Aidan Moffat/RM Hubbert (Jenny Reeve on backing and violin) version.
I've just repeated Nobody's Diary a couple of times. But a big thanks for the Aiden Moffat link, a sublime take on a classic.

The last track that I definitely played five times in a row was Dreams by the Cranberries. It was on the slow crawl in to my workshop on the morning that they announced Dolores passing. I cannot deny that I was a wee bit choked even though I'd moved on from them years ago - strange.

It's entirely possible that since then I have listened to Tunic (Song For Karen) by Sonic Youth five times in a row and Judgement by The Sound is probably in the ballpark.

Sebastian Cobb

He has form for this, he's also done bananarama's cruel summer and a medley of two Power of Love tracks and the glory of love. https://youtu.be/HcZklrrIeVE

A couple of weeks ago in work, I heard a wonderful example of sixties sunshine pop on one of those oldies stations that play songs continuously, and didn't get the title, the artist or even any lyrics to Google.  Given my total lack of musicality I couldn't remember anything about the melody other than it was joyous, so humming it to people to see if they could identify it wasn't an option either.  I emailed the station the next day to ask what had been playing at that time but nothing matched, so I didn't even have the right station!

Yesterday evening, as I was sat in a pub, I heard another of those stations play The Happening by the Supremes.  99% certain it's the one.  I've been bingeing on it today.

I heard this on a compilation the other day and recognized the sample at 2.30 from on of my favourite Negativland tracks. I don't like all the song but that bit and the long ooh ooh ooh but at the end are brilliant.

Came outta nowhere for me this but really hit home in my post new year malaise. "Work You" is excellent, too.

Unsure where else to post this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTO4lEPdEgY&feature=youtu.be

I'd guess you'd class it as shoegazing prog rock but I've no idea really. Wasn't too keen on the first of the three acts but by the end I was in tears. There's a fair bit of context needed and I feel as if I'm going through a difficult part of life at the minute so it may be to do with that.

^ Full disclosure, it's an album and 43 minutes long.
