Prime Mover - Rush

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1BJITyRQ8s

One of the best songs on the best post Moving Pictures Rush album. Something about that initial bass and chorus hits me, it's just so uplifting and makes me think life can be good.

Anything can happen indeed.

The UK Eurovision entry.

I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I'm quite fond of the video.

This bangin' 80s classic. I am unable to physically turn it off

According to last.fm, it was both versions of Red House by Shudder to Think. No surprise there, as it's one of my favourite songs of all time (and there's no helping me but I love the re-recording every bit as much as the original).

The Acid Queen

This is how you do a cover! Tina full on psychotic here.

Mate... I don't play any track on youtube unless I play it a dozen times. I've listenef to Stupid Love about 200 time in the last week. But if I've going to broaden things out. Where do we stand on this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPFAYIr8z2I

I remember hammering this on my cd player when on holiday with folk in 1990 but only watched the video for first time tonight. The graphics are genuinely ace for 1990 yeah?

A piano that is alternately delicate and ham-fisted. Someone covering a song he wrote. I used to hear the most famous version all the time when I was 4 or 5. I only really like near-immaculate bits of song-writing now ideally with next to no instrumentation and this must be one of our species' five best examples of that. One line takes quite a gamble with the timing which jarred the first few times I heard it but now makes sense. I'm not really having the full-on Guardian reader piety for this artist as he's often an earache or middle of the road. Change your name to James Webb, Jimmy, then we won't feel phoney when we mention you.

Came out late 1992. Graphics were cheapish for the time but that's kind of the point. I like them as a microcosm of the time. See how many filters you can spot.

Jellyfish return in a new guise - The Lickerish Quartet

Ahhh. Takes me back to scorching days sitting in a field listening to Spilt Milk in 93.

I've had Aldous Harding's Designer LP on repeat for a month.

Lovely stuff.

This Waterson:Carthy cover of Black Muddy River, a Grateful Dead number! I was really in the mood for Norma Waterson's voice today, and this just got to me.

Have had Oncle Jazz on repeat whilst doing manual labour in the garden but this track in particular is a (relaxed) banger.

"Barcelona" by Freddie Mercury and the opera lady. I still don't understand why there's a real orchestra AND synth strings on it though.

Their tender cover of the Katy Perry classic. J/k it's a sonic battering ram that brutally bums your ears for 3 minutes then fucks off. Catchy still though.

Dusty Substance

It was Giorgio Moroder's 80th birthday the other day and I spent a good few hours listening solely to Giorgio tunes.

I listened to this one, Tears, at least five times in a row: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9mQZCFmmqo

You may not know the title but almost everyone on here will know it from a famous 90s sample.

It's a belting tune - Somewhere between Goblin and Ennio Morricone.

My girlfriend says it sounds like "game show music" but I don't care. Gloriously upbeat

2 minutes in and my ears said "is it in yet?".

Not bumming for me, Clive.

Colleague went to Harare years ago and I asked her to get me something by Marshall Munhumumwe and Four Brothers, who I must have heard on Peel. She got me two cassettes that were fantastic. One on was this, which, probably through laziness I've only just found on youtube.

Probably went ten years without hearing this but the bass line would pop into my head every now and then. It's the best bass line ever made, even better than Down The Final Flight by The Very Things
