Orinoco Flow by Enya is absolutely fucking mind-blowing.

masterpiece out of this world

The last tune I played 5 times in a row is this short, haunting little thing by the Sea Nymphs. The chord changes at the end are spine-tingling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDLwSGuiNGQ

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Sleep is Wrong

Lorn - Sega Sunset
It's relatively short, but the multiple replays are just as much to do with how beautifully it fits with the video (the 'Running Man' segment from the 1987 'Neo Tokyo' anime anthology).

Chalk me up as an Orinoco Flow admirer too. I think Kate Bush is a more fitting comparison than Liz Fraser - Enya's lyrics are intelligible (and usually written by Roma Ryan, her manager/producer's wife)). Not to slight Ms Frazer, who is wonderful too, but in the Cocteaus at least her lyrics were usually all about the sounds of the words rather than making any kind of sense.

Can't believe it was nearly 10 years ago but Nothing Else was a fantastic Lorn album. Mux Mool did a great one around the same time.

Ultra Vivid Scene - Mercy Seat

Not quite sure how this passed me by, it's exactly the sort of thing I like.

One of the most soothing and comforting songs I've heard. The best Zero 7 song they never wrote.

Absolutely massive tune. Listen to that guitar tone, it's like a Cardiacs.

Guitariacs.

I tend not to repeat tracks over and over, but sometimes I find stuff that absolutely melt me. Recently it's been Jim Morrison by Mogwai, though Stanley Kubrick and Burn Girl Prom Queen also have done the job in the past.

If I was forced to pick a favourite piece of music I think I'd go with this. I've been known to impose a listening ban for a month or two before seeing them live to recapture some of that first listen magic.

Sin Agog

The Vib Ribbon soundtrack is my own personal prozac.  The catchiest tunes chopped and screwed with the artless abandon of a child fucking about with decks for the first time.  Sunny Day I'll just keep on repeat sometimes.

I enjoyed listened to that but their pronunciation of "ennui" annoyed me.

I am slightly obsessed with Horizon by Aldous Harding at the moment. I don't think I have heard it five times in a row but I have heard it a lot. I enjoy watching the various performances of it on YouTube. Those facial expressions

Dusty Springfield - Love Power

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWhHUYmkhu8

There's loads of truly great Dusty songs but this one is a stone cold monster of a track with heavy heavy drums. I hadn't heard it before today and I can't stop listening...

From the same LP, her version of Take Another Little Piece of My Heart features equally banging drums.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Thanks to the Chart Music podcast, last night I repeatedly watched and listened to this astonishing '70s Euro-disco-salsa banger from Belgian pop trio Two Man Sound. The tune is great fun in its own right, but their TOTP performance elevates it to hitherto uncharted levels of deranged brilliance.
