Hand Solo

I got a melody stuck in my head from somewhere the other day which I eventually tracked down was the chorus to Nik Kershaw's The Riddle.

So I had a listen to a couple of other songs of his and the chorus of Wouldn't It Be Good really reminds me of something else too. I can't work out what it is at the moment, it's a bit like The Police's Everything Little Thing She Does Is Magic but not quite that?

I think I worked out what it was as the words just popped into my head, I think it might have been Savage Garden.

Joe Jackson - Anger

Didn't know much about Joe Jackson apart frmo Steppin' Out, but if someone had told me this was Joe Jackson, I'd never have believed 'em! Absolutely cracking track!

I really got into Joe Jackson about 10 years ago after hearing this live version of Stepping Out from 1986, the downtempo arrangement is sublime.

Bending the rules but I've probably played this about 5 times in a row now.

Checked it out on a whim as well.

Shit. Just found out (very belatedly) that Nick Talbot aka Gravenhurst died 6 years ago. Saw him support Neil Halstead in a church back in 2009/10.

A shame.

Kinda addicted to Haruomi Hosono's Sports Men at the moment.  Hadn't heard it before a few days ago. It's the most Singly sounding Album track of all time.  I love popsongs that have a bit of a wistful edge to them.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqdv032mFbg
genuinely quite shocked how Talking Heads this song is. I always thought this was an ambient-pop type thing

Avant Garde - Get Down
I dunno, just a bit nice to dance around to like a maniac whilst alone and the neighbours aren't in (they're in right now)

Oh shit that's really sad to hear. Missed that completely.  We played a few gigs with him around 2005 when that album was out, he was a nice bloke I seem to remember.

Captain Crunch

Eric's Trip – Girlfriend

I find 90% of this stuff far too twee to listen to but there's just something so beautiful about this one.

Been listening to the Morricone Il Serpente soundtrack again and Nadine is a right banger...

Sin Agog

Listened to the first track on this record by Shoukichi Kina/Champloose a bunch of times to drum it into my memory after forgetting what the fuck it was called for almost a decade.  Had to painstakingly scrawl through myriad google results for 'Okinawan folk music' before I finally caught the fucker.  Now I will never be sad again. The whole album (recorded at some club, I believe) is aural prozac. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiXBxqJUyfo

Blackout - Bowie

DB flexing his decibels; a real steamy rhythm with vertical lyrics to match. Pop it on the jangler, stretch the volume brinkwards, and bask in these fantastically spilled musical innards.

I'm completely obsessed with Sade at the moment. I've listened to nothing but her/them all day and am eyeing up the really quite pricey This Far box set.

love sade but the other day my dad pointed out she looks a bit like a woodcock and now i can't unsee it

going through a bit of a nick nicely obsession at the moment, he's a lovely bloke and the fact he's in his sixties and is making some of his best music is pretty inspiring - his album Sleep Safari has become a standard bedtime listen for me

after I heard what that fuck did to his ex, he oughtta go the way of Kevin Spacey. However he did do a lot of bangers and I might give him a spin now.

he does sound pretty old in that song there

Spoiler alert
*Manson's cover is a poor attempt, by the way.
