Radio control is a subset of remote control ahh.

Is an absence of wires a subset of having a wire?

QuoteIn electronics, a remote control or clicker is a component of an electronic device used to operate the device from a distance, usually wirelessly.

Remote doesn't mean wirelessly, it just means 'from another location'. That can mean via infra-red, radio or ultrasound, but it can also mean 'by prodding with a snooker cue' like I used to do with my hand-me-down television.

I think you'll find it means 'from about a foot away', as per the length of the wire of a remote controlled car in the 1980s.

When I was a kid there were remote controlled cars and radio controlled cars.

Remote controlled cars had a wire connecting them to the controller.  Radio controlled cars had no wire.

Here ends my TED lecture of 2018.

I knew someone with a TV remote that was connected to the TV with a wire!  This was around 1987 but it seemed positively antique even then.

Positively accurate is what it was.

Without going all Peter Kay, my parents had that on their Ferguson Videostar. It was utterly pointless as the only option on the remote was pause, and while that did pause it also blanked the screen because the machine wasn't sophisticated enough to line the tape with the heads to get a static image.

Has everyone's username always been displayed in red?
It used to be blue when we had the Cook'd and Bomb'd theme, with the image in the header. I can't remember when it changed. Last year, maybe?

To be honest though there's no benefit to having the still image up there while you're pressing pause.  "Pause" is only useful as an alternative to "stop" when you're wanting a more precise position on the tape to record from.

The more obvious issue is the fact that you probably don't need to press pause normally unless you're getting up anyway to go for a shit or a piss, or someone is calling you for dinner (or a combined dinner, shit and piss).  So just pass the telly on your way up and out.

EDIT: eh? Sure I didn't post this in this thread. Weird.

Sebastian Cobb

Yeah I suppose it may have been useful if you were using it with a camera. Not that many people would've had them in 1979.

I sometimes wonder if Armstrong is filmed in a way that tries to conceal his bald patch. I mean, it's there, there's no avoiding it, but his hair, for example, is styled in a way that tries to pretend it isn't.

It's a helmet I think.

Edit:  yeah, it is.

See when he takes it off:

His head is completely changed.

I don't know how that comment ended up in this thread. It definitely wasn't the one I meant to post it in. I didn't even open this thread! Forum dead soon?

Don't worry; it fits in this thread in a way.

I love the orange window at the front of Armstrong's 'outer head'.

In a post more in keeping with the thread's purpose, I've only just noticed how much Neil A looks like my cousin Adam.

I can't remember whether it was Little Chef or Happy Eater that named it 'the all in one'.

It's not red and it's not orange. Nor is it fully brown, though could be shit coloured. I'm inclined to agree most with Ferris.

It bloody well is ochre. That's the benefit of a Fine Art GCSE - I can pick colours out with alarming specificity.

Ochre is hex triplet #CC7722 according to Wikipedia. Google it. Bask in my knowledge. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.

Some people are just cunts and the smart thing to do is not expend anything of myself of worth trying to make them do the decent thing. I'm a socialist, community minded, done charity work, volunteered - but it is naive to think you can change people

And that, here's my real revelation - that's what proves karma to me. I believe the Hindu meaning of karma is a fairly simple "action becomes you" sort of thing.

You really are how you act. Me? I look in the mirror and I love who I am. Not in a bad way. It's just.... the importance of self-belief seems strongest when you meet people opposed to it.

Love yourselves even if only to love others better.

New Jack

In myself, yeah. Been reminded of good things I did.

Bit pessimistic outside of that... but I've also been reached out to and I'm utterly grateful.

I think, and I realise this is nuts posting as a gimmick of a mudering pro-wrestler - I'm too optimistic!

Got a few beerskis in the fridge. Eh, I ain't Jesus, Buddha or L. Ron Hubbard. Nae ma fuckin business tae gie a fuck aboot

New Jack

I'm either too damaged to cope online or people are bigger cunts than I thought. Prob a bit of both.
