Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius..."

"THIS IS SPARTA!"

"What I do have is a very particular set of skills."

The Tree of Life, if not for being the most successful of Malick's more floaty latter day works, then just for the utterly gorgeous shots Emmanuel Lubezki stuffed it with.

American Sniper, the definitive example of horrible mainstream right-wing filmmaking in the post-9/11 era.

Mad Max Fury Road.

This is the film which immediately popped into my head when I read the thread's title.

I too have long thought that in decades to come, Under the Skin will be remembered as a classic masterpiece and will have entered the public consciousness.  If it doesn't, then it certainly deserves to.

Yep yep yep. Much like Eraserhead, it's that one piece of art that comes in a generation, gets overlooked, and ultimately inspires the next. There is nothing else quite like it and not only am I honoured to have seen it, but it makes me feel better to live in a world which allowed it to even get made in the first place.

And its one-day iconic image will be that chap 'frozen' in her netherworld.

'Being John Malkovich' if only for the promo poster with the multiple JM masks, which has been spoofed a lot (saw a thing w/ Corbyn masks on the New Statesman's site a while ago).

Technically '99, but released in the UK in 2000.

Enter the Void, it occupies a kind of black hole territory now where it's probably hard to do neon excess without unwittingly drifting into its orbit of influence.

Other nominations:

The poker game scene in Casino Royale

The end of the Bourne films (Extreme Ways)

As much as I hate to say it, the Avengers film

I think Drive definitely needs to be seen as "iconic" too, as it was the main thing that started the trend of the "idealised 80s" - bright neon lights, the synthy soundtrack and so on -  that you see a lot now in stuff like Stranger Things.

Sebastian Cobb

The acceptable faces of romantic comedy.

Avatar, probably

Also "I always blah blah fucking Heathrow airport fucking ner ner ner"

Avatar, probably

I'm very curious to see how the Avatar sequels perform theatrically.  James Cameron has never suffered a box office bomb and yet, he's filming three Avatar sequels back-to-back.  I doubt that they'll fail to turn a profit and yet, I don't think that they'll meet expectations.  Like I said; curious.

I've not seen The Revenant but I know about the bear scene, so I'd call that iconic I guess.

Mean Girls is pretty iconic these days, gets cited and quoted all the time.

Wet Blanket

Taken, which I thought was horseshit, but everyone knows the "particular set of skills" speech

Brundle-Fly

And nicely reheated for the Millenials?

itsfredtitmus

Bit of a bacon streak on a picture of 3 people kneeling together? Don't see anything wrong with it!
