Not sure what he's doing wrong for you, but I find he's actually far less annoying than I anticipated.
His 'manly' stuff was very funny, I thought.

BeardFaceMan

What has Asim been in or done? Never heard of him before and I dont think hes said or done a single thing that has made me laugh. Hes not even endearingly shit like Nish Kumar was, he's just bland, boring shiteness.

TMJ

Is he not the guy in the British Airways safety video? He's not very funny in that, either.

He's Chabuddy G in "cult hit" People Just Do Nothing, isn't he? Although I suppose if you never watch BBC Three comedies, you could be forgiven for never having encountered him.

Utter Shit

Yeah he's great in PJDN. Not great in this. Episode 3 was a big improvement but it's still a mile off the madness of previous series, despite Liza being fantastic.

jimboslice

I agree with the good people of this thread, Tarbuck is definitely carrying this series. I love Tim Vine and had high hopes, but he's not the best Taskmaster contestant. Hope I'm proven wrong by the end of the series. Levine has been pretty good too, Russell Howard could be worse, and Chaudry is just dull.

I thought that was the part of the show and only Alex saved it. I think I just don't find him funny, sometimes in material but more often in delivery. But that and his approach to the have fun task really rubbed me the wrong way.

Really struggling with Howard in ep 4. It's like his every instinct is designed to get on my fucking nerves.

Yeah totally agree. Don't think I can watch anymore. Fucking bantz twat. And those teeth. And I'm not at episode 4 yet.

Shame because Liza Tarbuck is great.

The Lurker

Thought episode 4 was the best one so far this series. I do agree with the previous comments that Tarbuck is carrying the show though.

I think it says a lot about this series that the two non-comedians are the funniest contestants. God I love Tim Vine, but this isn't the best format for him. Asim Chaudhry is just dull as and Russell Howard puts an end to the theory that Taskmaster brings the best out of comics you don't like.

Still decent though.

He does appear constructed by comedy scientists to be The Most Lad.

Between popping his shirt off to show his gym-laboured body and imagining grannies spunking to his "most fun" challenge, he seems determined to appeal to a demographic that doesn't feel very Taskmaster.

Overall it's by far the weakest run. In a bizarre twist, the US Taskmaster, which I presumed would be at best a cheap knock-off, is growing on me more week on week.

BritishHobo

I wonder if part of the joy I'm also finding in the US Taskmaster is that the contestants, being presumably unfamiliar with the franchise, are constantly bewildered and surprised by the daft arbitrary weirdness of the show. Whereas, being on series 6, it feels like everyone on the UK version knows exactly what they're getting into, like it's just another panel show.

Imagine being a Russell Howard fan. Pure desolation. Everything about the guy seems like it was designed in a lab to fuck you off and spoil your day.

Is it seriously true that he and Daniel Kitson are best mates? My brain's not computing that one, no matter how hard it tries.

Used to be good friends at least. I remember him being the third party in Kitson's routine about trying to cope with his stutter on the phone and accidentally saying "My name is... my name is... my name is Daniel Kitson".

lankyguy95

I think he's the only comic Kitson's ever taken on tour with him. Him and John Oliver frequently used to come up in Kitson's shows.

Maybe Russell's current appearance (buff, whitened teeth) is the fallout of a failed attempt to break America like his friend.

They play football together apparently.

Comedians' football seems to be a big thing encorporating everyone from young club comics to big stars, all meeting once a week in London. They used to talk about it a lot on the Elis James and John Robins radio show.

RoadMaintenanceTycoon

just watched through til ep3 of this, I never thought I'd like anything russell howard did but he's surprisingly excellent in the studio bits. tarbuck takes the cake, however. I love how she referred to the little wind-up tin man as 'terse'

RoadMaintenanceTycoon

didn't like the last episode. at the risk of sounding anti-lady, there was something mildly shite about alice levine's response to the man impression task. it felt like davies was very keen to keep the peace after levine's political statement re. men being overpaid shites, he should have actually engaged with it.  felt like he shited out of discussing equality of outcome.

tarbuck was a gem tho, and I liked russell howard with his top off tbf

IIRC (and, again, at the risk of sounding anti-lady) Katherine Ryan was also prone to stamping her foot and blaming the patriarchy when things didn't look as if they were going her way... which looked especially ridiculous when she did well.

Watched the chaotic Edinburgh TV fest 'commissioning editors special' they did in 2010 the other night and this moment stuck out in particular, would love to know what gets lost in the edit of the recent shows

Mango Chimes

That's a fairly massive exaggeration about Ryan – her point about being the only contestant who has never had to tie a tie was entirely legit. And I don't think Taskmaster would particularly benefit from Greg being a prick about the gender pay gap.

Anyway the latest episode: Tim manically reeling in the entire garden made me laugh out loud. The group task was uncomfortable.

Twed

I don't really enjoy any of them except for Liza, who is one of the best Taskmaster contestants ever, IMO.

The tie... yeah, fair point (although I wonder how many men would be happy to be timed tying a tie these days). There was the one with the raw egg? Immediately assumed she'd be disadvantaged because one of the men would just neck it raw. There were a few others. It's not a 'massive' exaggeration. I like her.

Was Greg a prick about it? Hope not.

BeardFaceMan

Liza Tarbuck is a fucking delight, I'm a fan of Tim Vines brand of silliness and I can take or leave Alice Levine. The other 2 are fucking awful, Howard in a 'get this unfunny cunt off my screen now' kind of way and Chowdry in a 'you seem like a very nice, very dull bloke, please get off my screen' kind of way. My least favourite series so far.

olliebean

Chowdry completely lost me this episode by repeatedly pronouncing "H" as "haitch." I felt sure, the way they'd emphasised it in the edit, that Greg was going to make some withering comment about it, but no. Just left it hanging there like a thing they'd done specifically to annoy me personally.

Famous Mortimer

I started watching it and Russell Howard's teeth are intensely off putting. I'm trying but it's like a magnet to my eyes.

Between the augmented teeth, the fake tan and the frosted hair, he does look distractingly fucked-up.

There's a Chuck Palahniuk short story in Haunted about a couple who decide to film a porn together and spend thousands of dollars on tanning and plastic surgery so they can look "perfect" and only when they film it do they realise they look unrecognisably grotesque. Looking at him always reminds me of that story a bit.

olliebean

I don't think the teeth are augmented, are they? His sister seems to have pretty much the same teeth.
