The best Clash single was Hitsville UK.
The best Buzzcocks single was Promises.
The best Undertones single was Here Comes The Summer.
The best Pet Shop Boys single was Jealousy.
The best Pulp single was Razzmattazz.
The best Beautiful South single was Prettiest Eyes.

And so on.

itsfredtitmus

The best Blur single is Sunday Sunday, not Parklife

Jockice

Blur's best single was Beetlebum I think. Which is generarally regarded as a classic. And did top the chart. But the best Oasis single is Cigarettes And Alcohol. Did you know there are two version of the video for that, one of which totally removes any actual smoking or drinking? Sell-outs.

Funcrusher

Isn't 'For Tomorrow' supposed to be the best Blur single.

I like early Kate Bush but I've never been wild about 'Wuthering Heights'. I love Laura Nyro but wouldn't put 'Stoned Soul Picnic' in my top faves of hers.

Does anyone other than Sam FM think Parklife is the best Blur single?

Dr Rock

The best Pulp single was Razzmatazz.
The best Blur single was Tender
The best Oasis single was All Around The World.
The best Ash single was Goldfinger.
The best Damned single was Stranger On The Town

Isn't Parklife the classic one?

Song 2?

Actually, there are too many contenders - Girls and Boys, Beetlebum, Tender, Coffee & TV, There's No Other Way, For Tomorrow, The Universal . . .

It's like The Batchie Beatles - too many songs in such different styles that nobody can agree on a definitive answer (unless you are willing to accept 'Country House' - as that's probably their biggest hit by metric craptonnage sold - but down that path lies madness and schism as NOBODY thinks Country House is their best single)

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

The best Monkees single was Pleasant Valley Sunday
The best Hollies single was King Midas In Reverse
The best Move single was I Can Hear The Grass Grow (excellent thread by the way, Nowhere Man)
The best Doors single was Touch Me
The best Sweet single was Teenage Rampage
The best Mud single was The Cat Crept In
The best solo Beatles single was Photograph by Ringo Starr

I've always felt Parklife is a silly novelty song. I don't really like 'funny' music.

Girls and Boys is the classic Blur Britpop single, surely?

In any case, For Tomorrow, Popscene, Beetlebum, To The End and Tender were obviously their best singles.

It's certainly better than cockney stinking eel pie Parklife.

asids

The best Damned single was Stranger On The Town

One of their best, but wasn't a single as far as I can gather (in the UK anyway)

You should hear the demo with Damon doing the cockney patter - your anus will seal over in shame and horror.

As Danny Baker rightly spotted during his tenure on the Radio One Saturday shows, the best song on Parklife was not one of the singles, but this :

Oh does it have to have been a single? I was breaking the rules. Ok

The best Damned single was The History of the World (Part 1)

Dr Syntax Head

The best Oasis single is Do you know what I mean. Fact!

The best Manics single is not Design for Life, it's From Despair to Where.

Those two and The Sun and The Rain are fantastic. Lovestruck and NW5 are brill too from the post-comeback.

Dr Rock

The best Adam & The Ants single is Kings of the Wild Frontier.
The best Adam Ant single is Friend Or Foe. Runner up Apollo 9. Other runner up Prince Charming.
The best Squeeze single is Labeled With Love (though really it's what everyone would say, Up The Junction)
The best Duran Duran single is Skin Trade.

itsfredtitmus

I always thought that Lovestuck was a classic Madness song before I googled it and found out it was a come back single

Agreed. I was also quite fond of Train Of Thought.

Jockice

As for the Two Tone ones mentioned by Brundle-Fly, he's right on The Beat And Madness but the Specials' best single was Do Nothing and The Selecter's was Missing Words.

Open Your Heart was the best Human League single.
Show Me was the best Dexys' single.
Everyday I Write The Book was Elvis Costello's best single. From his best album, but that's a whole different argument.

Can't disagree there. Those were my other choices.
