That's the real title of this real video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MiZRpCvwsQ

I genuinely thought the title of this was a parody on the cottage industry of 'leftist owned' clips on youtube, of which Cathy Newman has recently been anointed as the definitive object of.  I mean 'smart man'? But it's for real.

It's like everyone just forgot she lied about the mosque. Weird, eh?

I weirdly like Jordan, mostly because I think he's more openly vulnerable than a lot of his ilk, and that in him I can admire. That said, this.

For Star Trek TNG fans, this is my favourite of the stupidly-titled "owned leftist" video genre.

Triggered SJW Attacks Picard, Instantly Regrets It

The episode, for non-Trek fans, features a Starfleet admiral who is essentially a racist nationalist, and begins a McCarthy-esque hunt into an Enterprise crewmember's history based on his Romulan heritage. Picard intervenes and finds himself the victim of a show trial intended to disgrace him and stir up fear and hatred of Romulans.

But no, Triggered SJW Attacks Picard, Instantly Regrets It.

The pinned comment attempts a hilarious justification:

QuoteFor all the idiotic Liberals who argue that Satie can't be an SJW because she's racist and xenophobic - whenever she speaks, simply replace Romulan with the words "white male," and an SJW is exactly what you get. Make no mistake, the SJW's are racist and xenophobic - towards white people, white men in particular.

I do worry that YouTube rushes to suggest all this kind of bullshit to you, almost no matter what else you've been watching. Edgy teenagers are hugely at risk of falling into this kind of shite.

your link is fucked up

Shoulders?-Stomach!

That TNG episode is a cracker.

The alt-right ❄️ was clearly triggered by the word Freedom.

Peterson is ok and his philosophical/psychoanalytical approach is interesting. And he does have some worthwhile things to say about post-modernism/far-leftism. But the recent tidal wave of interest threatens to engulf him - there are already signs he's feeling the strain of all the attention, even if simultaneously rather enjoying it. Can't help but think it's a pity he's been adopted as a guru by a pretty idiotic (mostly male) element - viz. all the videos on youtube of his lectures chopped up into 4-minute segments given misleading titles like 'How to stay calm/be attractive to women/turn your life around' and 'JP DESTROYS leftist fool' etc. Because, before all this blew up, he was putting some important, thought-provoking stuff out there. Still is, to some extent, but seems increasingly to be simplifying the message/playing to the gallery (viz. first book, esoteric academic tome 'Maps of Meaning' followed up with/morphing into self-helpy bestseller '12 Rules for Life.'). And he's making a ridiculous number of media appearances - surely almost at saturation point?

ieXush2i

When is his book where he scientifically proves that Jesus Christ is top dogg out?

phantom_power

His equating of progressive issues with Marxism and the ensuing frothing about genocide makes him look like a right rodney plonker

Quote from: https://www.viewpointmag.com/2018/01/23/postmodernism-not-take-place-jordan-petersons-12-rules-life/Neither Derrida nor Foucault is cited in 12 Rules for Life. Apparently, not only has Peterson never bothered to actually read them, he seems not to have even read their Wikipedia entries. The only relevant citation is of a book called Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault, which he customarily recommends at speaking engagements. The author, Stephen Hicks, is Executive Director of the Center for Ethics and Entrepreneurship at Rockford University, and an acolyte of Ayn Rand. Armed with this dubious secondary source, Peterson is left making statements that are not only mired in factual error, but espouse a comically reductive conception of how social life and history work. He takes a common misunderstanding at face value, proceeding to build a whole outlook on it.

I've read Stephen Hicks' book and even with my limited knowledge of philosophy, could tell how poorly he was representing the arguments of many key philosophers, 'postmodern' or not.

How you'd expect to be taken seriously if you criticise the work of people you haven't read is beyond me.

What's noticeable is how carefully Peterson picks his battles. I've not seen him debate any experts - in say, civil rights law, postmodern philosophy or even non-Jungian psychologists - who would substantially critique his arguments. TV news journalists and Joe Rogan aren't exactly intellectual heavyweights.

I'm honestly amazed that anyone finds him particularly clever, putting aside my obvious opposition to his fey MRA agenda. He just talks shite in a confident voice, a la Nigel Farage.

Not to mention he writes and talks exactly like a post-modernist.

He really really doesn't. He's literally just using the good old 'cultural marxism' trope

Peterson's just Breivik in a suit.

I'm fascinated by him. Well, partly I'm fascinated by his appeal; but I'm also intrigued by the man himself. There's a YouTube video where he breaks down in tears describing the importance of organising society around the individual subject - there's all of this crack about Disney films - he seems to be deliberately adopting this kind of hyper-sincerity which to me is risible but which obviously scratches an itch for some people.

As has been said above, his conflation of Marxism and post-modernism is stupid, and does seem to be a rehash of the anti-Semitic trope of 'cultural Marxism'.

But this guy, though ... his voice ... he sounds like he's got a tiny Frank Sinatra stuck in his throat! All the Jung shit! If you'd told me that a gargle-throated Edmund Burke would be enthralling the youth a few years ago I would have not believed you. What's he a symptom of? Why does he appeal to so many people?

From what I can see he's combining some standard male self-help tropes (stand up straight, tidy your room, don't jerk off until your dick looks like a Pepperami) with a swingeing, inaccurate critique of 'Western society' that allows the people who follow the self-help tropes to feel like it's not their fault that they need to be told these things - because it's a cultural conspiracy and they're just the unwitting dupes of Feminazis and deconstructionists. But the mass appeal of all this is baffling. He's coming to London soon!

ieXush2i

He can't even talk about Disney films with any degree of accuracy!

It's not even as though they're complicated. I'd mastered their nuances at 3.

To someone like me who's not really paying all that much attention to this or other things, I thought it might help to place on record more explicitly that the man being discussed here is Jordan Peterson. The man on the video is far away Max Mosley.
I wasted a good ooh twenty seconds of my life thinking "...so, this Peterson bloke really does look a lot like Max Mosley. And sound like him too. Whu?"

Yeah nobody bothered to click the link. In that video, if it's in its entirety, Max Mosley embarrases himself quite hard.

That is so telling. The important part isn't having values or putting together a cogent argument, it's just ten tricks to help you to help you be a winning argument warrior. It's all about winning. In lieu of any good characteristics they've cultivated this thing of being a supreme argument lib-owning hero in the debate wars.

I guess they're just lobsters, refusing to back down.

Ben Shapiro didn't fuck until he was 26 or so.
