Jeff Goldblum's fucking great

He's got a film or a game out or something (both, actually, I think), and I keep seeing interviews with him popping up on my youtube feed.

Thank god. The guy's one of the all time great interviewees; genuinely eccentric, genuinely funny, genuinely charming.

He's also bloody brilliant in The Fly. Any love, or otherwise, for Goldblum, here?

Kelvin

In interviews, the guy just has a way with language that I absolutely love.

I absolutely fucking adore him. Those Holsten Pils ads he did circa 1990, grrr. And The Fly is in my top 10 films ever. And The Tall Guy! That was amazing, when it was released. Best sex scene ever, at that point.

Want to see Jeff Goldblum sing to the rescue pup he's cuddling for a photoshoot (to promote Isle Of Dogs)? Of course you do.

A member of a subhuman species has done what I can never do :-(

Now that's no way to talk about Mr. Gold... I'm kidding, of course!

Love this exachange, too:

Goldblum: "This Steven Spielberg, he wears many hats, doesn't he?"

Interviewer: "Very talented..."

Goldblum: "Ever wear a hat?"

Interviewer: (LAUGHING) "Sometimes Jeff Goldblum."

Goldblum: "Cause you've got a heck of a head of hair, but I bet you wear a nice driver's cap."

Bloody brilliant.

Every time i think i think of Jeff Goldbloom I erroneously imagine his free associations in Independence Day to figure out they need to use apple macs to destroy the alien mothership.

"Cold....cold...virus!"

Turns out that never happens but its something almost akin to that and it involves a can of coke.

He is just inherently charming though, especially in Jurassic Park.

Brundle-Fly

Well, obviously he's a bit of a hero to me too.

Doesn't play enough villains though.

Another fan of The Fly here, and Goldblum's performance in particular.

I think I might stare a bit too much because of him.

He's very good in Thor 3. I was worried from its trailers that that film would go down some Internet-era rabbit hole of irony and nostalgia and be alienating and sickening, but it's not like that at all and he's the best thing in it by miles.

He's so visually expressive that at one point he seems to give a line reading using only his facial expressions. No actual words are uttered but you hear them regardless. It's nice to see him back in the public eye basking in unconditional admiration. He's the best.

A lost Goldblum gem is Life Story, he made for BBC's Horizon staright after The Fly.

Sadly, there only seems to be a ropey upload on DailyMotion. I knew somebody who worked on it and she said Goldblum was intense, dedicated but also out there with the fairies. She once came into his dressing room and he was sat crosslegged on a table in his dressing gown, hunched over science books about DNA and quoting lines from Shakespeare's The Tempest. She said this behaviour coming from any other actor she'd have deemed as affected wankery of the highest order but because he was really generous and affable to the cast and crew, she found it rather beguiling.

And he's fucking Jeff Goldblum.

You're right, Kelvin, he is. I, too, have been whisked up and away on the sudden flood of Goldblum media appearances. I enjoy the way he lightly moves his hands as he speaks. If ever we permitted an American to play the Doctor, it could only be Goldblum.

Here's an extra short film with his character, he's an absolute joy to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl3VkYkMa6Q

I used to work in the same building as Gena Davis' character in The Fly. Shit office, downtown Toronto. I could cry, I'm so happy about it.

Anyone seen Earth Girls are Easy? It's mental.

I always enjoyed a youngish Jeff camping it up with a load of old Brits in The Tall Guy.

And even now he's down with the kids, "hamming" it up with the Simpsons memes:

what a good sport.

I get the impression, watching various interviews, that he actually enjoys being asked to riff and improvise a bit. He always seems to light up when they ask him to do something or play a daft game.

Bogbrainedmurphy

Steven, are you rescuing me?

Fold.

Jeff's always been there for me, from the Tall Guy to The Fly to Jurassic Park, he's like some strange mad uncle who could pop round at any moment, be utterly charming, then vanish without a word. My wife is utterly mystified by him, which is the only weak point in our marriage really.

I love Jeff in Portlandia, selling knots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfLu7GRMR7g

Looking for this, turns out there's another one, where he sells doilies, which is really more about him and Fred Armison riffing off each other, but there's this fantastic bit where Jeff stops talking and just looks absolutely nauseated for no real reason, it's fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFdq-8wwNeM

Golden E. Pump

Comes across as one of the most genuine and likeable guys in film. He clearly loves movies and is completely self-aware which is such a rarity in Hollywood.

Dex Sawash

I didn't get laid after my date for Earth Girls Are Easy,  will always hold Goldblum responsible.

In one of his recent vids to promote Isle Of Dogs he casually admitted to affected vocal tics, and even as someone who feels a repulsion for actors I was totally charmed.

Oh it was the fumferling thing above
