Great songs on the 6 Music playlist

That one they just played that goes "take a fake ID" which had me bopping around in the kitchen.

That one that goes "maybe it's a heart attack-ack-ack-ack."

That one with the Scottish man and the woman and it sounds very like another song, but they get away with it.

That one with the Margaret Atwood quote.

Funcrusher

Google suggests the first one is this:

Quite like that, the words are funny and it's kinda catchy. It's a bit like that '212' thingy.

Barry Admin

Yeah that's the one, its fucking wicked.

Tune-Yards, great album.

Manic Street Preachers :-( I jinxed 6 Music.

Porter Dimi

They had it on at work earlier and they played two brilliant tracks: Each and Every One by Everything But the Girl, and The Morning of Our Lives by Jonathan Richman.

Barry Admin

Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill too, plus Spiritualized and Suicide an hour later. I was still groggy enough to think "huh they're playing Spiritulaized again?"

Brundle-Fly

Radcliffe & Maconie played Constantinople by The Residents a couple of months ago. In nearly four decades of being a fan, I don't ever recall hearing them played on the radio. Even more flabbergasted to hear it during the lunchtime slot too.

Yeah, love that Riton tune.  Been in my head solidly for most of last week.
Charlotte Gainsbourg's Deadly Valentine has been played near to death by me and 6Music too.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Ravenscroft also played the supremely catchy Oom Sha La La by Haley Heynderickx (yes, that is how she spells her name) earlier. It's ace.

Ahhh thanks, because I misremembered the lyric, I just kept getting medical advice in the search results.

BANGER.

Not sure who is being interviewed at the minute as I'm reading, but they were talking about some gig, and said something like "I don't remember anything about it, just walking on and then walking off." Someone else said "isn't that the sign of a good gig?" And Mark Radcliffe said "or the sign of a very short gig." What a fucking brilliant impromptu line.

Barry Admin

You oughta know by now...

It is a great song.

The Margaret Atwood-referencing song is Courtney Barnett - Nameless, Faceless. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HZZSYDhx0FI

Great thread, that Riton track had passed me by, very good.  I enjoyed this one by Pip Blom the other day https://youtu.be/yWF3TsUYx6Y

Courtney Barnett is top, although I didn't think her debut proper was quite as magic as the 'A Sea Of Split Peas' collection of the early EPs.

surreal

"Count Your Blessings" from Mattiel is the first thing in ages that has made me look up the playlist listings to find out who it was.

Terrible video, mind

I was coming here to post this, after hearing it again this morning. Interesting background, a Eurovision singer who grew up loving stuff like The Breeders, and is now touring with them.

While looking for it, I realised they actually have a great setup for finding songs on the 6 Music website. Little audio clips and all, great stuff.

Fan of the Riton & Kah-lo tune should check out this 10 minute live set they did, for the Rave Lounge:

I love how Riton is using a TR-909 live and how laid-back the vocals are.  I couldn't stay still listening to this last night!

Barry Admin

Thanks, will watch that!

This is on at the minute, and the chorus made me look it up while it's still playing:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RPS-Cq4uMFs (Superorganism - Something For Your M.I.N.D.)

Loving 6 music at the moment, glad I now have a digital radio in my car.
Couple of crackers that came up have been...

Hollie Cook - Stay Alive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1--GrdPQWc

and the recent Parliment reunion - Im Gonna Make You Sick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNm2jQiTk-o

Not sure I can take much more of that "Jack White does Zappa" song anymore.

I thought he was going for more of an OTT Queen thing? I like how ridiculous it is, it's fun.

Barry Admin

It's fine, I'm just profoundly bored of it now.

Really into that Pip Blom one.

It's brilliant. I also like how that's her actual name, not the name of the band.

momatt

They've played this track a few times recently, assumed it was new but it's a few years old.
Anyway, funky as hell, yet poppy girl band.  Bloody love it.

Just stuck it on there and they were playing the one truly great Paul McCartney song!

Then they went into this, which I heard yesterday and it really stuck in my head. Was amazed to find out just now it was by Arcade Fire...
