They Might Be Giants. The only two songs of theirs I don't like are "Swing is a Word" and "Disappointing Show." I've seen them live quite a few times and they are fantastic performers. They probably talk too much between numbers for some people, but I've always found them witty and engaging.
Tom Waits, although I think Real Gone is a weak album, which seems to be a bit of a sacrilegious opinion amongst the few people I know who are also fans. I used to listen to his albums on the late bus home from seeing friends in the next town, and listening to Alice while travelling through threatening neighbourhoods was an experience I'm eager to relive, but I've moved to somewhere lovely now. Looking out of the bus window and seeing all these dodgy people vomiting on the street and mugging tourists while also knowing that I was actually safe and everything would be fine is a great mood to be in while listening to Waits.
Elliott Smith, who I started listening to around the time my granddad died. I found his songs really cathartic to listen to, especially the sequencing of "Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands" into "I Didn't Understand."
The New Pornographers, and pretty much all their respective solo careers.
The Bonzos. I didn't get any of the jokes when I was young, apart from "Mr Apollo", but I found them intriguing. Vivian Stanshall's solo work I also love, although Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead I'm rarely in the mood to listen to. It seems sort of like an album he had to make rather than one that needs to be listened to.
Everything Paul Heaton has done, even Biscuit Boy. The Beautiful South were the first band I ever latched onto. I remember trying to make a cassette of the songs of theirs I enjoyed the most, but it ended up as multiple cassettes with all of their stuff on it, but in a different order. His latest album with Jacqui Abbott took the longest to grow on me, singles aside.
Also fellow Beautiful Souther Dave Rotheray's band Homespun and his "solo" work. Saw him at the Troubadour in London with Bella Hardy and Jim Causley performing his Life of Birds album in its entirety. Eleanor McEvoy was the support act and joined the band to sing a song about dementia.
I guess this is odd, but I can't include Pavement because their early stuff I just can't get into, but I love everything from CRCR onward. I mention this because Malkmus and the Jicks? I love every album they've done, even the long-winded and muddy Real Emotional Trash. "We Can't Help You" is bloody great.

Also thanks to Crabwalk for his recommending the new Fitness Forever album a while ago. It's the only album of theirs I own (at the moment) but it's filled my life with a particular type of joy I haven't felt before.

There are more but this post is too long as it is. I guess I'm just a big fan of eccentric pop music? Also, just pop music.

I saw them once as a gig tagalong familiar with exactly six of their songs, and one of them, either as himself or in sock puppet form, said "it's a stone cold gas to be here", and I've been saying it ever since.

So they're alright in my book.

That is brilliant to hear Deyv! Since discovering them five or so years back it's been my mission to spread the word, as they're such a special band. You've a treat in store with their other two albums, as they're equally as good as Tonight.

The Presidents of the United States of America had a remarkably consistent output through their career. Six albums [plus one B-side compilation and one live album] of thoroughly enjoyable cheery rock & roll. Very few duff songs, plenty of ridiculous earworms, always excellent live. Worst album was Freaked Out & Small, where for some reason they ditched their weird guitbasses and bassitars for plain ol' guitars and basses, and even that is a fine album.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela have basically released one big album in 5 installments. It's all twiddly diddly thumpity-dumpity guitar stuff, so if you like it then great and if you don't then oh well. Their latest release was a bit more-of-the-same, but it's still a perfectly enjoyable twiddly-diddly-thumpity-dump session.

The Beautiful South are naff as fuck but all their albums are good. Even that one with the weird turtle faces. Yes.

Dr Syntax Head

AC/DC. I like AC/DC and all their albums sound pretty much exactly the same.

I got really into that new one recently and had it on for about a week. Played it in my garden the other week and it got a good reception as well!

Ach now, that's not true. Dirty Deeds and For Those About To Rock may as well be different bands.

Neville Chamberlain

Fugazi - they never really put a foot wrong. Only A Steady Diet of Nothing is occasionally perhaps on the underwhelming side every now and then compared with the rest of their output. And talk about going out on a high with The Argument.

Massive Attack

I was just thinking the other day about their sustained excellence. (I haven't heard the soundtrack they did, but that doesn't really count, does it.)

Head Gardener

on a C tip, Can, Cope, Caravan, Cream, Cockney Rebel

...even Out of Reach?!?

(or near enough) even some Cope is hard work and don't get me started on Caravan, all the (studio) Cream & Cockney Rebel LP's are just fine though

It's definitely an album best played through speakers and as loudly as possible. Hope the neighbours liked it.

If were talking proper albums rather than latter day compilations of outtakes and the like and ignoring bands who only released 1-2 albums then...

Led Zeppelin
Steely Dan - Original incarnation anyway
Neu!
Spacemen 3
Nick Drake
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Talking Heads
The Verve - Just about
Massive Attack

saltysnacks

Just remembered I enjoy anything that involves MF DOOM.

Music is subjective of course, you can like whatever you like, but you like ALL of Urban Hymns and ALL of Forth?

Fascinating; I've bookmarked a few songs from TT for later enjoyment, and on the whole I like it, but I can't imagine it being someone's favourite. Oh well, more power to you.

I like all Cake's albums, although the last one hasn't stayed with me quite as much as the earlier ones. Still, like Pavement's last one, good enough to make the list.

You're smoking crack. Moustache Man is one of their best!

I prefer 'Bound Away'.

I have that CD they made of that song where the cover n that is made out of the bands clothes. Good track.
