Regarding RAM and GPU prices - is Sony (specfically the PS5 and whatever else) big enough to support capital investment in fabs?

I'm assuming that raw materials - conflict minerals and the like - aren't a particularly newly significant constraint. In which the crypto bubble is less of a problem.

I think they're supposed to be using the next off the shelf AMD GPUs and GDDR6, neither of which will be available in quantities cheap enough until 2019/20, (apparently). The days of console makers creating their own custom parts seem to be over.

Zetetic

My post was not about custom designs.

Edit: But the timescales might well still apply regardless.

Battlefield V is set in WW2 and has a female lead with a robot arm? I don't remember that in world at war.

The PS5 is looking like 2021, according to the BBC article.

biggytitbo

Ahh I thought it was WW2.

On that note, the Cod WW2 campaign is pretty good, with some nice variety to it. Would be unfortunate timing if Battlefield went ww2 so soon after.

This honestly just makes me pine for Brothers In Arms. The best WW2 shooter by a country fucking mile.

Bhazor

Brothers in Arms was fucking great but I just love any game with squad control. It's how I imagine it would be like to have friends.

bgmnts

Aw man and the way every so often you'd get some slow motion camera porn when you removed the enemy's cover?

Jizz.

E3 is going to tell me that I'm not wasting my life.

PS5 in the shops for Xmas 2020 would be my guess. I'm kind of less excited for big generational jumps with consoles these days. Everything will be cross gen anyway so inevitably you'll be playing the same games as you are with this generation but with just much better frame rates and native 4K. I think things will be more focussed on the physics and frame rate next gen. 8K is going to be next must have feature to sell TV's and PS5 Pro's I guess.

Following on from the phenemonal first three months of the Switch the XBox One and PS4 Pro conferences last year were weirdly old fashioned. Nothing but numbers numbers numbers and "Hey that game you played last year? Well next year you can play it again. BUT IN 4K! Kind of." Feeling like something from two generations ago when they were pushing HD as the great goal of gaming. The difference of course being that two generations ago the leap from PS2 to PS3 was ten times greater than the hop from PS4 to PS4 pro. Meanwhile Nintendo were bypassing all that and carving into a whole new market yet again while still releasing two of the best games in years.

Its hard to picture PS5 being any better than PS4. PC games aren't pushing the limits of hardware the way it used to. The cost of development is the defining limit of games now not the hardware. The 4K movement is going to bankrupt a lot of developers over the next year.

I'd like to see a new Mortal Kombat game announced. I recently picked up Injustice 2 for PC on the cheap and I'm loving it, I'd like to see some of its mechanics applied to MK (and hopefully dump the Block button).

However, this far Netherrealm Studios have only released one MK and one Injustice game per console generation so this would break their usual pattern.

They'll have much better processors, as thats the main weakness in consoles at the moment, and incrementally improved graphics with 4k as the default. Also pretty sure the PS5 and the next Xbox, if there is one, will be backward compatible with the previous console. Maybe even forward compatible in some cases.

Maximilian reckons a new MK at E3 would fit: https://youtu.be/RnvkjAjnluE

I agree with him about the gear system in Injustice 2, I hope they can take the fun cosmetic stuff and leave out the imbalancing aspects.

I agree totally, it can be hard to master characters in fighting games anyway without so many possible variations, and fighting games rely on their mechanics being balanced. I'm sure most people are just happy playing dress-up.

E3 will be worth a hate watch if nothing else. Can always be sure something they do will piss you off.

My guess for EA? A full 20 minutes on fucking NFL bollocks.

As long as there is FF7 info I'll be happy. There won't be.

I'm guessing there will be talk of Tetsuya Nomura being removed from the project if there isn't anything new about it.

EA's conference officially kicked off

Oh, you mean "officially started." I thought for a few seconds that some brawl had kicked off or there'd been a shooting or something.
