Eddie Henderson?

I meant Joe and was thinking of Bobby Lyle at the same time

Has anyone done Cat Stevens - Was Dog A Doughnut yet?

I rather liked it, but it sounded like other things of the time? I don't know if I'm misjudging the year or something, but there's quite a bit of electro from around the same time which...ah I don't know, it's still good though.

That maybe the case but it was a year earlier (1984) than the Chris & Cosey track I was responding to (1985)!
And isn't Electro proto-techno itself and with there being quite a lot around in '84 then the C&C track fits perfectly in the timeline.

I saw a 1984 track mentioned just the other day as proto-techno - Chris & Cosey - Dancing Ghosts

How about Soft Cell - A Man Could Get Lost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzQQdJQWLXs ? (1982)

Here's another Chris & Cosey track this time from 1982's Trance - The Impulse

What's the one that goes di doo doo di doo, di doo doo di doo, and is very Balearic - crap at remembering names.

BlodwynPig

Never mind...Exotica I was thinking of.

Nestled in between an album full of Satanic chanting is this by Igor Wakhevitch from 1973.  Could be a Basic Channel track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNcTePruv3Y

And not really techno at all, but a goofy idiot-savant synth-pop experiment from 1971 by a former Swedish popstar called Hans Edler who'd probably never even heard of Delia Derbyshire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DbSTeY8Zeg

That's fucking brilliant! No way is that from 1973; it's like Basic Channel meets Plastikman!

Sin Agog

Had to buy it on vinyl just to prove to a mate that it wasn't a youtube prank.

This made my day from his Wikipedia

QuoteIgor Wakhevitch is on Instagram.

Pierre Henry has been mentioned but for this part of Orphee Ballet, pt 2 is very techno in vibe.

Great shout for the Satie btw.

mate this is rude. this completely slaps.

OK, its the late 80s/1990, but Joel Vandroogenbroeck (from Brainticket fame) is hardly associated with any form of techno - but he gets some proto-stuff in his Digital Project album

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V9e8vDE0tQ

and the 1990 Data Pulse album

If this isn't a full on RAVE BANGER then i don't know what is. Gyorgy Ligeti composed in the early 50s by all accounts.

I've seen Miles Davis' 'Rated X' described as proto drum 'n' bass.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrjFtbGKqFk

Fucking nuts piece of music either way.

Always thought this 1977 cut by a French folkster called Emmanuelle Parrenin was the most icy cool proto-trip-hop/downtempo thing...especially from a bloody folk singer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1dwaFOF8FFo

NoSleep

There's also This Heat's "24 Track Loop" if you're looking for proto drum'n'bass:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDluEia22oA

It's literally what the title suggests; a dub mix of a 2 bar tape loop on a 24 track tape machine.
