FIFA's stupid rules state you cannot have more than two colours on the shirt.

Seriously, those fucking guys.

I've been trying to look up the actual rules because there are a few shirts that seem to conflict this. Nigeria, for example, although if the sleeves don't count as part of the 'shirt' I can understand that one, but Colombia's definitely has three colours.

Sgt. Duckie

Anybody plotting a marvellous CaB wonderful World Cup sweepstake/ fun competition this year??

holyzombiejesus

Too late for a sweepstake now, I think. There's this that got passed round at work...

THE RULES

You must pick 10 teams.
You must select at least 1 team from each group.
You have a maximum of 100,000 Roubles to spend.
All games played over 90 minutes (i.e. extra time and penalty shootouts do not count).
The 3rd place play-off game does NOT count as nobody cares anyway!
Pick a Dream Player to receive bonus points.

THE POINTS

10 POINTS FOR A WIN
3 POINT FOR    A DRAW
-5 POINTS FOR A DEFEAT
5 POINTS FOR EACH GOAL SCORED
-2 POINTS FOR EACH GOAL CONCEDED

For each game involving one of your teams, you will receive:

10 bonus points for each team progressing through the group stages.
10 more bonus points for each team progressing to the Quarter Finals.
Another 10 bonus points for each team progressing to the Semi Finals.
Yet another 10 bonus points for each team progressing to the Final.

10 bonus points for each goal scored by your Dream Player
(goals scored in extra time count for this, those in penalty shootouts do not).
25 bonus points if your Dream Player wins the Golden Boot.

This came through on email and it's 10 quid to play but all the prize money gets shared out. Obviously we won't need to pay/ play officially and can just have a go between us but if anyone wants to play the game 'properly', I can forward you the organiser's email address.

Maybe it's the main body of the shirt. I think that's why the German effort has the motif in all-black rather than the far better original design it's an homage to.

Maybe it's flag colours they object to? I'm not sure. That shirt, after all, basically is the Colombia flag. There's some kit-related rule for why we couldn't have it, though. Maybe there's a special "Let's fuck England over" clause.

rotating laughing emoji with tears etc at England in group 1 above, well, almost everyone in group 2. Even with home advantage Russia would be on shaky ground in group 3

It's more complicated and is something to do with stripes, checks etc

holyzombiejesus

It kind of makes sense in the original format as it was in table form with the teams split in to their groups and one of the 4 prices assigned to each team (apart from England's group where both they and Belgium were 20k and Group G where there was no top priced team and Colombia and Poland were both 15k).

Wasn't it Nigeria that had a shirt closer to a basketball vest till FIFA said no so they just added black sleeves to keep the overall look the same?

Is anyone still working their way through these FIFA specials? I'm halfway through '98 (not watching them in any particular order) and its a cracker. Partly, I'm sure, because its "my first World Cup (TM)" but mainly because it absolutely crushes every one of its numerous musical montages, partly cos of great fan footage, and partly cos it nails the little narratives running through the competition. Bloody lovely stuff, I'm all excited.

So many to get through, I reckon I'll save some for those awful gaps between games you get in the group stages. The thought is already depressing me.
