Here's a juicy nugget of Shakin' Stevens fact for you: the kids affectionately refer to him as "Shakey".

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Stevens.

A friend of mine went to see Shaky in concert recently and, without a trace of irony, said he was absolutely brilliant. I can well believe it, you probably get a lot of bang for your buck at a Shaky concert; it's not as if he's going to come out and play a bunch of of deep cuts that nobody apart from hardcore fans wants to hear, he's gonna hit you with banger after banger after banger.

You can't argue with This Ole House, Green Door, You Drive Me Crazy, Oh Julie and Lipstick, Powder and Paint. Well, you could, but you'd end up looking very foolish indeed.

boki

Does he still do 'A Little Boogie Woogie' and have all them oiled-up muscly lads come on and dance to it?  Asking for a mate.

SteveDave

I saw him on Millennium Eve sandwiched between Brian Connelly's Sweet (not feat. Brian Connelly RIP) and the Bootleg Beatles. All of my friends were in the stadium watching the Manic Street Preachers but Shaky pissed on them.

He said he couldn't do his "trademark" moves because the stage was wet.

Due to rain.

He's also my friend Andrew's second cousin and was apparently lording it over everyone at a family funeral a few years ago.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

My only criticism of Shaky Shakin' Stevens is his refusal to acknowledge that his entire career is based on ripping off Elvis Presley. I watched an interview with him once, and he more or less said that Elvis wasn't much of an influence. I was only a kid at the time, but even then I thought to myself, "Mate. Come on."

Say what you like about Noel Gallagher, but at least he's always been cheerfully open about his thievery.

Then again, I suppose I should put myself in Shaky's blue patent leather shoes. It must boil his piss whenever anyone points out that he owes his career to a man who was much more famous and talented than him.

Golden E. Pump

Always had a soft spot for Ol' Shaky. 'Give Me Your Heart Tonight' is a favourite of mine.

Shakin' Stevens: multimedia pioneer, effortlessly leaping the very boundaries of pop and technology like a denim-clad gazelle.

A good-looking lad in the day, without doubt.

pigamus

He once assaulted Richard Madeley live on television. He's a good lad.

DrGreggles

The first 2 albums I owned were by Shakey. About my first 7 singles as well.
OK, so I grew out of that by the time I was 7 or 8, but he's still a fucking legend.

Weirdly I've never liked Elvis Presley* though.

Yeah, the first few singles I owned were by Shaky. This Ole House was great. I loved the video and the matching denim in particular. I was about 5 though. His Christmas song is fucking great. Gives me a proper Christmas twinge the first time I hear it in late November.

Can we please always call him Shaking Stephen's from now on

Count me in for those who were into Shaky during their nursery school years.  Had his Greatest Hits and was given the Turning Away single.
Even looking at the sleeve now cheers me up:

Always liked Breaking Up My Heart, which is his take on new wave Cliff (easily the best Cliff):

'Cause this is thriller...

Golden E. Pump

His real name is Shakespear's Stephen.

Shaky

Guys, really touched by this thread. Thanx

Steven

Louise Woodward's favourite, too.

When he gets parkinson's he'll have a real reason to be called Shakin' Stevens.

Glebe

Mentioned in Stephen King's Pet Semetary. Mental.

When he gets Parkinsons, his natural Shakin' will cancel out the effects of the Parkinsons and he'll be fine.

Bad Ambassador

FACT:  This Ole House, his first album to crack the Top 40, was actually his tenth released.

The Shake tried to reinvent himself with a proper serious album a year or so ago. Proper serious music writer Richard Williams gave it a good review (https://thebluemoment.com/2016/11/28/the-return-of-shakin-stevens/) but no-one bought it.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a Sheikh called "Ian Stevens"? Even without the Shakin' Stevens connection it's a bloody brilliant name for a Sheikh.

Johnny Rotten's favourite singer.

Blimus. He does a creditable version of CCR's "It came out of the sky", one of my favourite songs! More like Jerry Lee Lewis than Elvis here tbh. His band are better than him, all told though.

I think This Ole House was one of the first albums (on cassette) I was bought as a kid. Loved it, and I had no idea I was imbibing 50s rock n roll, and er Rosemary Clooney.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Here's the aforementioned clip of an unabashedly powder-fueled Shaky assaulting Richard Madeley.

You know you've made quite a spectacle of yourself when even Rossi and Parfitt from ver Quo, at the height of their '80s excess, look soberly perturbed by your antics.

Easily the best thing I've seen this week.  OH DEAR ! !

Does any else remember his appearance on one of the Saturday morning BBC telly shows (libertarian batshit cunt Noel or er... Mike Read) when he did Shooting Gallery?  He'd emote the shoot..shoot..shooting gallery bit and then look up from his sights and smoulder at the camera in a Welsh way.  It was a thing at school and there's seemingly no trace online.

Thing is with Digitiser2000, that it's not always clear when they're being tongue in cheek, but thankfully this one was REAL.
