I hope it's true, but 2020 seems awfully close for a premiere, doesn't it? I'd anticipate a much smaller project than The Return, like a movie or miniseries. Hard to imagine Lynch attempting something of that scope again so soon, especially in that timeframe.

BlodwynPig

I hope its darker and deeper than 3, which i found wafer thin

Shaky

Yeah, how the hell would it be out by next year? That just seems like a random shot in the dark, even if the thing was somehow pretty much ready to shoot.

Mister Six

WeGotThisCovered throws a lot of shit out there. Some of it sticks, most of it doesn't. I wouldn't get my hopes up for this (as much as I would like to).

Also for it to come out next year they'd already have to be shooting it (or be about to shoot it) now. This feels like a fantasist's post based on Horse fucking about on social media.

Whilst Season 3 had expanded outward into the world and featured a larger cast, a few key players had converged in Twin Peaks by the end. What happens next may well continue from there. Movie or miniseries, as Phil has already said.

Trying not to get my hopes up and then Kyle MacLachlan tweets this:

he's always tweeting stuff like that though. agh i'm going to be so disappointed when it dawns on me that all of these rumours never came to pass.

Honestly hope nothing happens. S3 was fine as it was. Knowing anything happens after Carrie's scream would sour it for me.

I think Twin Peaks has had three perfect endings already. I do think season 3 was such an unlikely thing to happen, that happened at just the right time, that a season 4 would be less special. I don't think Lynch has ever made anything bad or "unnecessary" though so I'd definitely want to see them try a fourth time.

jamiefairlie

Yeah bring it on. Call me an old softy but I've been through such a journey with these characters that i'd like them to have some sort of happy ending.

Small Man Big Horse

Just watched the first episode of Maclachlan's current sitcom, Carol's Second Act, and boy is he looking old.

Still, a bit of boot polish and I'm sure he'll be all sexy again.

Captain Z

In fairness he's done well even to recover from losing his memory.

garbed_attic

I just hope we get the Wally Brando spin-off we deserve.

PlanktonSideburns

Wally brando Xmas special

And who's that at the door?

THREE DICK TREMANYNES?!

Part of the reason why series 3 became a huge 18 hour monster had to have been Lynch thinking this would be a final statement, and not just of Twin Peaks.  It had to cover everything because there probably wouldn't be another chance.

If it turns out that there really is interest from Showtime for a bit more, then something like a 6 episode series with a smaller cast doesn't sound too unrealistic.  We've checked back in with everyone who was willing and available so nobody's been snubbed, so going for something a little more contained sounds about right now.

He could give Ray Wise something to do this time

Agree with this - after the expansive, rangey madness of three, the reaction against it would be a very tight, focussed, deep look at fewer characters. Fuck I wish I hadn't written that because just the thought is thrilling.

I need to rewatch three because it was life-alteringly great.

Can there be a way that David Lynch lives forever?

Rumour control is that there may have been something new filmed for the box set that's out in December, and that's what the flap has been about.

It's far too late for them to be up to that sort of thing, and the cast are dropping hints now too.  The director of photography was supposedly knocking about the 'real' Twin Peaks recently, and Lynch has spontaneously tweeted about the hospitality of people up that way too.  Something is happening.  My guess is a TV movie, or some kind of one-off special.

sevendaughters

if they can just deal with the emwoodening of Joan Chen I'll be happy

There's a nice little summary on r/twinpeaks of the rumours so far:

https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/dc7q17/season_4_rumors_everything_we_know_so_far/

Personally holding out hope for another season proper, anything less than 10 hours and I'll be disappointed.
I also reckon there could be some significant scraps from the Season 3 shoot that we've yet to see, particularly with Richard and Carrie / Cooper and Diane.
There's definitely something in the works though, which I must admit is getting me seriously hyped.
The hype itself is nice, feels like I'm part of a collective willing something into existence.

Just imagine though if all this turns out to be a promotion for a new David Lynch coffee blend or donuts or something. That'd be good.

Also, unrelated to the Season 4 hype, this is good:

'A multipurpose symbol with many meanings'

That glyph on the ring always confused me, now it makes some kind of sense.
Whenever I go on that there reddit I discover something new.

NoSleep

I'd already connected all of those together (apart from the corn and the one armed man in agony; what's he doing there? is it the folds in his t shirt?).

I think they missed out the resemblance of the symbol to the huge electricity pylons we saw in the last episode as Coop and Diane made their way to wherever. Also "two birds with one stone".

Nixed my original post because I realized I was just whinging.

I'd like a fourth season if it focuses entirely on the townsfolk and takes place explicitly before Cooper does The Thing at the end of Ep17. I really don't want to see anything that happens after Carrie's scream. I feel like the sheer misery of that ending was so perfect. It still makes my tummy hurt to hear Dark Space Low.

It's what he's saying, and the symbol before that image.

BlodwynPig

Its just a symbol though. You can infer anything with lines

NoSleep

Like Lynch is wont to do. Symbols are only "just" symbols in the real world.

There is a difference between symbols and symbolism. Symbols are for cunts ;)

H-O-W-L

I don't think Lynch's meanings for the symbol are as tremendously deep as people think. I think the resemblance of it to imagery he repeats throughout Peaks is not coincidental, but I don't think it has some usper secret mega meaning involving dugpas and mayans and the hurrian hymns and stuff like a lot of people want it to. It's just menacing imagery he enjoys that conveys the mood he wants. The behind-the-scenes stuff of S3 has him explaining that he likes to just sit in a chair and dream up imagery to fill the screen with, and I think that makes his work all the more magical because there's no cynical intricate little 'I'm so smart' creationism to it, he just has this silent madman-with-a-brush sort of way of doing things and it gives his work all the more gravitas.

I also love the behind the scenes outtake where he yells at a Showtime producer, saying "Who gives a fuckin' shit how long a scene is?!"

This is about right. I think he likes to make images and ideas "rhyme" or "harmonise" with one another.
