Aaron Bastani, who's a great bunch of lads generally speaking, is having an absolute stinker on twitter tonight. Even falling for Limmy's obvious trolling about how the England team= the British Empire or whatever.

Yeah, good point, but he was mostly a teenager at Sporting. It would be interesting to see how some of these players would fare now at a top club outside England. Just can’t see it happening though.

Jadon Sancho at Dortmund
Keanen Bennett at RB Leipzig (i think)
Chris Willock at Benfica

Younger players are doing it.

I did go to see us beat United at Old Trafford in this match https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oHE8eJbg9w so I'll always have that.

United had won something like 15 matches in a row at Old Trafford before that match.

The Fergie time was ridiculous, felt like about 15 minutes of injury time.

And you did relegate Gillingham when you were already relegated. You all seemed to enjoy that.

Sorry, I keep going on about that

So I’m guessing Southgate’s position is reasonably secure.

Keep thinking back to how angry I was after the Iceland game. Tonight I was laughing and joking within minutes of the final whistle. I was just so grateful to have been provided moments of joy, hope and pride by an England team again. It’s really been fun!

Good luck Croatia in the final, who totally deserve to be there. Real grit and quality tonight and England did very well to come at them as hard as they did in the first half.

What was so good about England this time is the mentality and the technical proficiency. Mentality wise anytime they went into sitting deep mode they would eventually snap out of it and try to get back on top. Technically speaking they are an England team that can actually pass the ball, move quickly off the ball to receive it and pass again and so on.

These are two major leaps forward for your national side. No doubt these guys have been together for years and have done very well at under 21 level, with Southgate I believe. If you can keep this lot together for the Euros and next world cup you could go as far again or further.

Also there were no giant egos getting in the way. Can you imagine a dressing room with Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard and a multi millionaire foreign manager there purely for the money. All the players are doing cola, crisp and trainer adverts that cost millions and took weeks to film. The centre half is doing a fucking prank show on MTV in the run up to the competition. The fucking goalie is doing a fucking shampoo advert!!

It's good that the reaction to your campaign is so positive because you've a lot to be thankful for.

It would be amusing for him to be already sacked first thing this morning.

Small margins, Kane's chance to put England 2-0 versus the similar chance for Croatia in extra time which they took.

Has to be met with a cliché, that's football. Plenty of league matches are decided by seizing what few opportunities there are.

Couldn't have seen a way back for Croatia at 2-0, so sadly there will always be that lingering regret.

We are a mediocre but well-drilled side with an effective plan but one that only managed to beat poor sides. Still, wr did that which was an improvement.

You have to feel for the press. They must be itching to print headlines like YOU TURNIP CUNT YOU BETRAYED BREXIT but that's not the mood.

I do tend to think WC success as a whole comes down far more to the mentality infront of goal that is talked about, not just quality but the situation most teams go though there the confidence is there that chances will be taken against the fear they won't be. That really was the obvious weakness England had though out bar the Panama match that was always threatening to catch up with them in knockout games they should have won more easily than they did before last night.

Fucking delighted it's over. This will be my last post in the world cup thread and I will now claim I'm not that into football until about November-ish, when I suddenly start to like it again. This is the only pattern that allows me to get things done.

If anybody mentions football in my house for the next four months I will physically attack them. Switching off any footage of the lads getting a hero's welcome. It's only a game, get over your fucking selves.

MARFRIG AND GOODNIGHT.

Looks better with the offside flag firmly raised in the frame.

So what poignant montage tune did ITV play out with? I'd have gone with this eerily prescient Kim Wilde classic:

You say everything's alright
I say nothing can go right, yeah
Oh what a game you can play
Sad days add to confusion
Sad ways end in delusion, yeah
That's the name of the game

Well I know your love is rough
And the road you take is tough
But I just can't get enough

Chequered love

They didn't signal for offside but for a goal kick, it would have counted.

The first chance the keeper saved should have been the goal, but it was weakly struck and a decent save.

Makes no odds. He was onside, so VAR would have allowed it.

Have seen this on other boards but is it true ?

England attempting to kick off during the Croatian 2nd goal celebration:

ITV didn't seem to mention it (and surely Hoddle would have been up for it) but were they caught out with replays or is it not what it seems ?

Don't all the players have to be in their respective halves before a team kicks-off. Usually teams celebrate up the end where they score as Croatia did. Was it Aston Villa against Birmingham City where all the Villa players went to the dug out in their own half to celebrate and Birmingham were all set to kick-off legally but the referee prevented them from doing so.

Well there was a semi-rumour going around after one of Portugal's celebrations that the conceding team could take a kick off if all the opposing players were off the pitch. Hence, one of Portugal's players remaining on the pitch after (I think) Ronaldo's free kick. I think the official line is that's bollocks though.

Why’s he trying to hit it so hard? Just toepunt it over the line, you’re three yards out FFS. In the time it took to get his body shape right for the blast, he could’ve just bundled it in and been off celebrating.

Easy in retrospect, I know.

Ah, that makes some sense of it. To be fair I doubt it's anything other than an attempt to get Croatia back for the restart a bit quicker but can you imagine the shitstorm if the ref had gone with it ?
