All ABBA's videos are wonderfully low-effort shit laden with terrible 70s camera tricks and effects, but Knowing Me Knowing You takes the crown, just for the bit where an extremely pissed off looking Agnetha sort of slides into shot on some kind of trolley or something:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUrzicaiRLU&feature=youtu.be&t=135

Bonus points for the earlier segment starting at 1:32, where Agnetha is meant to be some kind of ghost or something hovering in the top corner, but you can CLEARLY SEE HER LOWER BODY BENEATH THE HALO EFFECT

There's something so sweet about ABBA's naff videos combined with their great songs. The naffness of the videos enhance the loveliness of their songs somehow

I was thinking just before this thread got made how much I love the video for Reward

studpuppet

Still my favourite from the last couple of years, especially in view of the change in frontline politics over that time:

Nobody Speak

DrGreggles

Always liked Pulp's Band Aid-inspired vid for 'Bad Cover Version'.

Sebastian Cobb

Always loved the yuppie naffness of Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet.

Apart from the usual Gondry/Cunningham/Jonze/Shynola technical marvel type stuff, I'm a sucker for some unusual choreography
Feist - My Moon My Man (choreographed by Feist herself)
Sia - Buttons (and her trilogy of videos choreographed by Ryan Heffington & Denna Thomsen, starring Maddie Ziegler)
New Order - True Faith (choreographed by Philippe Decouflé, also responsible for FYC's She Drives Me Crazy around the same time)

There's also the little-seen original promo for Blue Monday, made by Stephen Morris using his Apple II and an early video capture interface (it's also an early example of his obsession with tanks)

Another favourite of that era  is Cabaret Voltaire - Sensoria

A few from Godley and Creme - Wide Boy, Herbie Hancock's Rockit and U2's Even Better Than The Real Thing (which the band seem to have disowned, presumably either due to the the images from the Jeff Koons/Cicciolina 'Made In Heaven' art installation, or the flash frame closeups of porn stars faces 'in action').

Sebastian Cobb

She Drives Me Crazy (that's going in the don't trust thread shortly) was one of those videos where I got the impression where they didn't really know what to do. Bit like JAMC's Happy When it Rains or Kinky Afro... err just film them pretending to play in a blank room, it'll be fine.

Looking back, the mondays upped the Mary Chain by using really ghosty chroma key for their backround.

Sebastian Cobb

Nu Shooz -  I can't Wait
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ1tBVtYOBc

What happens when someone gets a little bit carried away with the quantel paintbox.

The Jets did this really well though

Speaking of overusing effects, someone really got carried away with the vision mixer on this one.

This is a belter really, so many tropes 'band singing in studio', 'man looking a bit serious and forlorn around some concrete steps' and 'attractive lady walking by a fence looking pensive'. It's got the lot hasn't it?

Sebastian Cobb

Just watched Toto's Africa - it's got the band playing thing but it's interspersed with a gormless man kicking about a library much to the chagrin of a sullen librarian, or maybe they're archaeologists, I'm not really sure, at some point the books catch fire, then the librarian/archeologist woman's glasses seem to wilt in the flames and we don't see her again. I hope she wasn't burned at the stake.

Glebe

Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver.

You'd really have to a be professional miser not to get a smile out of that.

I really like the one for Animal Nitrate. Puts me in the mind of Meantime + Twin Peaks

Britney Spears Everytime, but ruined by the last 10 seconds

Alanis Morissette My Humps, but ruined by the last 10 seconds

should have posted this in the plaintive piano song-videos ruined by the last 10 seconds

sevendaughters

I like any of those early 90s kind of slackery vids (favs: Cut Your Hair, Throwing Things, Web In Front) but for me the best music video ever is

Shorty - 'Coopie'N'Me' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNBWLFZfxTM

Shorty would provide half of US Maple the year after this. Shorty were decent, not knockout, but this song rips and I can't quite figure the video out.

I bet there's a niche fetish group somewhere for plastic cowboy suits

A coked up Dennis Edwards from The Temptations in Don't Look Any Further is an 80s cult classic.

This isn't even really a parody of the above, but they pull it off with aplomb and so funny.

Was looking through a few 90's videos for this thread. Things they really liked in the 90's
Fisheye
Posterisation effect
Pretend cine camera effect

Gold Soundz by Pavement.  The highlight of 'Slow Century'.

I remember this episode of Max Headroom, where I liked almost every song and video (Sting apart) that came on:

http://www.maxheadroom.com/index.php?title=Episode_CH4.2.1

Zoolook

Sensoria

Destination Zululand

Visions Of China

Sebastian Cobb

Ahh max headroom. I suppose Paranormia should be in here then.

https://youtu.be/6epzmRZk6UU

Brilliant track and video, shoulda been massive:

Beta Band - Assessment
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5XdUt3iIkZ4

a duncandisorderly

ah, max headroom...

"how's your head?"
"fine. (lasciviously) how's yours?"

so ahead of its time & yet rooted in the 80s. magnificent flick & tv series. but of course you're referring to the music video/chat show..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZY-yQYVf38

Anyone else remember the pure brilliance of the video for Sledgehammer, by Peter Gabriel?
