I've had an idea. Remember when 4later did Vidz? Well the first series is on youtube...

The idea I have, right, is we watch an episode, and then agree on a film to watch from that episode and go away and watch it.

It's a bit like a book club, right, but with films and an unnecessary level of direction from a graveyard-shift video review programme from over 20 years ago.

Gregory Torso

Sounds good, I'd be up for this.

DukeDeMondo

I'm in too. Fantastic idea.

Small Man Big Horse

Yeah, I'm up for it too.

Now I'm left with the difficult choice between watching every episode back to back right away or the world cup final, maybe the former mixed in with...

Famous Mortimer

Nice! I got the complete collection from...er...sources close to Nigel Buckland, and Buckland's forum was where I first met a delightful gent by the name of [banned troll].

Count me in, anyway. Best watch that first episode again.

Would we have to watch the Vidz episodes too? Because 5 minutes of that was enough for one lifetime.

Captain Crunch

Be fun to talk about the Vids episode too, great idea.

I'm glad there's some appetite for this! How about making a decision on a Wednesday (so you've got from now until Wednesday to watch the show) so people have time to get their hands on the film for a weekend watch? Is that too little time? I dunno.

You don't have to, but I guess it'd make it harder to choose on a title from the show to watch.

One obvious problem is that alot of the stuff featured on it was probably best suited to a few clips on such a show.

I'm not sure if that's the case. It covered quite a bit of ground.

This was the show's beauty, in that, it didn't just review releases of contemporary films either. They would often look at cult classics being released such as El Topo by the Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky. No genre was left untouched with reviews taking in Britcoms, Soft Porn, Manga and Video Nasties to name but a few. It was an astounding lesson in film and the breadth of titles they looked at inspired us to reprogram our algorithms of taste to more challenging procedures in the escapist world of film.

I'm imagine most episodes probably have at least one decent film featured in them its true, I just don't think your going to have a ton of choice.

Rewatching it does definitely bring to mind how much closer a lot of the various subgenres/cultures felt at that point relative to today being right before the net started to have a significant influence.

LanceUppercut

Id be up for a video club, watched some right shite recently so ill continue on that trend.

boki

Sounds pretty bangin', this.

I feel I should be doing something about this, but I don't know what that something is.

Captain Crunch

Maybe watch the first episode, post the youtube link here with the film you've chosen then we can watch Vids / the film / both and chat about it next week?  Could take it in turns if you don't want to be choosing the film every week but bear in mind at some point we'll probably have to watch a nude exercise video.
