I was following a guy on You Tube who has endless online ructions with paedo hunters (he also specialises in debunking Freemen On The Land). His beef is that they shouldn't be streaming these things live as if it is a real paedo it just tips off other paedos he may know, and if they've got it wrong they're exposing an innocent person - there have been instances where they've gone to the wrong address as some of these folks aren't the sharpest tools in the box.

Beyond that, there are a plethora of issues with this stuff. It's just vigilante justice, they have no authority to be doing this. In some cases the guys they're turning over in these videos have blatantly got learning difficulties and have just been sucked in because they're easily led and lonely. Police doing this kind of thing have some kind of regulation and oversight to prevent them just blatantly entrapping people, whereas these folks just want the excitement of catching a 'nonce' like they've seen on 'To Catch a Predator'. It's highly questionable that sophisticated paedos are using teenage based social media or Facebook in a big way anyhow. These 'hunters' are often just catching random saddos who are easily led, not breaking paedophile rings. And how often do these cases actually stand up in court, given how little idea the hunters seem to have about procedure, rules of evidence etc?

Whenever you drill down into these NONCE HUNTER personal lives they are on a quite disproportionate level white male, broken home, cycle of familial abuse and history of violence, secondary education uncompleted, ex-cons and associates thereof. Quite why anyone would give these people latitude for their desperate attempt at redemption, whether misguided or an outright proxy for psychopathy, is anyone's guess.

This happened to someone I know recently. He was always a bit strange but we thought he was harmless. The kind of guy who comes into the pub and tells lies the entire time he is there and just generally annoys the fuck out of you but not being the full shilling you dont want to tell him to fuck off.

Someone text me a link to the Facebook video of the hunters turning up at his door. He's 40 odd I think but still lives at home. His parents were the ones to answer the door and were present when he was confronted with the evidence the hunters had on him. He had been chatting to what he thought was a 13 year old girl on WhatsApp. My friend and I wondered about this as don't you have to have the person's phone number to do that? I don't know.

Anyway I watched the video which was uncomfortable to watch as his parents were distressed and didn't really understand what was going on. I then decided to read the comments which were shocking. People saying things about the parents like how they were as bad as he was for raising him, how they were as much to blame, they hoped people in the area would go and burn them out etc. It was quite horrible to see the things people were saying not knowing the family or their circumstances.

There was also someone who said where he worked in the comments. Suddenly people were going batshit over where he worked because it meant he would see pictures of children. Someone else clarified exactly where he worked and that it wasn't the government place that had been mentioned before but it fell on deaf ears and grew arms and legs.

Now don't get me wrong, things like that directed to him I can understand. I haven't spoken to him for a couple of years and no longer live near him so luckily I don't have to bump in to him. I just wonder are these people going about things the right way.

They thought it was his house and followed him there from a bus stop. He had lied about where he was living etc but I think these people as much as they think they are doing good need to be more careful about how their actions could cause harm to innocent family members who have no idea what is going on.

I've seen things from Police before saying that the general view from them is these hunters are a pain in the arse. I don't know that I can agree with their actions.

It seems the thrill of having a few hundred people praising them for their actions and getting lots of hits on social media is hindering their common sense and understanding of the bigger consequences.

It's weird because people are being kettled for doing protests and appearing in court for jokes on Twitter but the cops are just allowing these guys to bully and harrass people on the street. I'm assuming only the harrassed man was taken away by police, presumably for his own safety.

It's a nice image but I suppose I must clarify I'm on the 'anti' side regarding this nonce/innocent person mob justice. If or arguments sake I now had about 310 torches shoplifted from Tescioes and wanted to intervene it would strictly be in the capacity of disrupting the paedo-hunting activities.
