I've really got a thing for these groups at the moment. Any more Eurodisco with surprisingly melodramatic melodies and audible glitter, as in you can practically hear the songs glittering? Hit me up with some sweet sweet cheesy but soulful Eurodisco

the science eel

I think beyond the groups you mention, you might be better off looking at one-hit wonders, or at least bands who weren't hugely successful apart from one or two chart hits.

Top Pop have a great youtube channel with LOADS of this kind of stuff - some real joys among the crap:

A slower burner and a lively-ish chugger, but with the attendant authentic glint of their era:

Addrisi Brothers - Never My Love (1977)
Voyage - Golden Eldorado (1978)

Brundle-Fly

Born To Be Alive - Patrick Hernandez. Maybe one of the greatest pop promos of all time.

I've said it before, but I think this is THE greatest record ever made - just perfection!

Private Pink - Little High Thing (1977)

Lovely little postscript to this on the youtube comments  :
QuoteThis is my father playing keyboards on Little High Thing (s). I was a tiny kid when they cut this track and loved it even then. In fact, I had the only copy left in the family ... can't even talk about what happened to it without crying. That said, I was blown away that someone found it and loved it as much as I did. I'm in complete agreement regarding the particular sound/sub genre you mentioned; it's not for everyone and was quite decadent ... even at time of release. But, even without personal connection to the the song, suspect would covet all the same.  The track was originally titled 'Little High Thing' (no plural). And, when my father called me in the DR to mention that a DJ had re released it on a compilation, I was thrilled. Even more so when I realized who it was. Looking out over the Caribbean ... I was able to hear it again in all it's 'barely touched' glory. A moment as special than being there the first time.

This will probably never reach you ... but, thank you for taking such immaculate care of something so special to me.

Warmest regards,

Lauren.

Two Man Sound - Que tal America? As famously featured on Chart Music podcast.  You really need to see the full majesty of their totp performance from 1979.

Ottowan! DISCO and Hands Up.

Superb call on Patrick Hernandez btw

Not Euro, and not quite disco, but Twilight Cafe by Susan Fassbender might nonetheless sit well on such a playlist

Dr Rock

Hoy Chocolate - lots of styles if you avoid the big hits

Patsy Gallant - From New York to L.A.

Linda Lewis - I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You

Abba are fucking ace.

They sure are. Can't believe I only heard My Love, My Life for the first time yesterday (I assume it's trending because it features in that new Mamma Mia film). What a beaut.

Without wanting to turn this into a general disco thread, here's a few of my favourite Euro bangers:

Gibson Brothers - Cuba (I'll never tire of the corny faces they pull in this vid)
Silver Convention - Fly Robin Fly*
Cerrone - Supernatural

* Honorable mention to Get Up And Boogie too. What lyricism!

dr beat

Well of course, Giorgio Moroder. Sure, I Feel Love (in with a bullet at at number 1 the day I was born pop pickers), but From Here to Eternity is stunning.

Dr Rock

I'm vaguely aware of Noosha Fox, and her one-time bad Fox. Jolly good stuff I hear.

70s Eurodisco is really only a gateway drug to 80s/early 90s Italo-house. Check out Numero Uno by Starlight for example.

Oh and Gala - Freed from Desire

Clownbaby

Thanks for the meaty suggestions you lot, I'll check em out

Brundle-Fly

Instant Replay - Dan Hartman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW-OfaiBs9k

Singing In The Rain - Sheila & B. Devotion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf83D0ypQwM&frags=pl%2Cwn

Makes you realise how po-faced and 'too coo forl cool for school' most dance/ club music became and has remained since.

Johnny Yesno

I can't say I like any of the artists in the op but since people are posting disco tunes, here's a favourite of mine:

Sylvester - Do you wanna funk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sB1T-nCX1k

Cerrone - Supernatural
Supernature, man!

In the late Seventies The Three Degrees had a short spell signed to Ariola Records, where they made a couple of albums with Ariola's in-house production team of Moroder and Belotte. They were a bit of a hybrid of the lush Philadelphia sound the ladies were known for, and the 'Munich Machine' synth eurodisco Moroder and Belotte had shot to fame with Donna Summer, and provided a bit of a late-career resurgence for Ferguson and co.

The standout tracks from that era for me are the singles Giving Up, Giving In, The Runner and Jump the Gun

Following this quality thread for quality music.

This is the point at which Eurodisco reached its zenith, 1982's Upside Down (Dizzy Does It Make Me) by Vanessa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeH2Um-yOrA

Classic European melody, early hi-nrg stylings, nonsensical English (and French) lyrics, singer who went on to pose for Playboy, beefcake-filled video set in a gym... every element is there. Pete Waterman must have been taking notes.

Not really disco, I guess, but this used to get me hot in the trouser department :

Gotta have the original Relight My Fire by Dan

https://youtu.be/rJwwaIhYf9Q

And Spacer by Sheila (most obvious Chic production ever)

https://youtu.be/bJ_LLwQ7Pck

Harry Badger

Some absolute belters here. I DJ once a month at an 80s disco/dance/funk/new wave night and I've acquired and deployed quite a few of these. Spacer was the first record I ever played there as BBC1 were using a sample of it in their Euro 2016 coverage. I've yet to pluck up the courage to play the Vanessa tune, I've brought it a few times but I'm worried it's a little too daft. Dan Hartman and Sylvester go down very well with a crowd whose parents would barely have remembered the tunes, let alone them.

Here's some others that just about fit into the category and that still cut it on the dancefloor:

Gibson Brothers - Que Sera Mi Vida - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOqSaNWtlA8
Fun Fun - Colour My Love https://www.discogs.com/Fun-Fun-Color-My-Love/release/666225
Lime - I Don't Wanna Lose You - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6hrkTzBgWU
Azoto - Firefly (the Disco Fizz album is awesome) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNwJ6bYSM8c
Girly - Working Girl - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHOQcCzBEA4
Hotline - Guilty - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOvEWc0C4bk

The last two are from the shameless rip-off merchant Bobby Orlando who is perhaps worthy of a thread of his own.

Here's an outrageous rip-off of Born To Be Alive from the Prom Night (1980) soundtrack (which is comprised entirely of similarly ersatz versions of big disco hits, all recorded in five days when the producer realised he couldn't afford the originals) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj0j75PViAA
