Bad Ambassador

Someone pointed out, possibly in this thread, that the two films to star both David Thewlis and Ewan Bremner are Naked and Wonder Woman, as a contrast.

Paddy Consadine I reckon. Both Tyrannosaur and Journeyman have a Loachian gritty bleakness to them. Not as political, granted.

Journeyman has a touch of sugary on-the-nose dialogue that takes it down a wee notch but that's nothing a good writing partner couldn't suss out. In terms of direction, the non-dialogue side of the writing and acting I can't fault him. That film stuck with me for days. If I could slip into fanboy parlance, Considine is unreal, hai. Love him to bits.

"comfort & joy" was excellent too.
so underrated its mental
even roger ebert managed to knock it down whilst still giving it a rave review

Lost Oliver

The Draughtsman's Contract? I'd give it 5 stars. It's something I could watch over and over again.

Yes.

So was Housekeeping but I guess that doesn't count here.

a mutual acquaintance of a mate owned and started to do up the church featured in local hero. I think he's sold it now.

Must rewatch Local Hero - absolutely love it but not seen in years. Recently saw Housekeeping and found it very sweet, moving and - ultimately - very sad. Must remember to look out the book one day.

So, it sounds like Comfort and Joy is next on my list, which I've NEVER seen.

I'd say Dog Soldiers and The Descent were non poss poor but Doomsday belongs in the poss poor thread.

I don't know if Doomsday technically counts as a true "Piss Poor British Film", as that was financed with American money.  It clearly had a bigger budget than his first two films.  To be honest, I remember liking it, but it's definitely a step down after the first two.

Edited:  Actually, looking at Wikipedia it was financed in pounds, so I guess it does count.

Local Hero's on Film 4 at 16:45 today.

Dr Syntax Head

What was that quite funny film with Winstone and Pertwee and loads of other British actors (the blonde one out of trainspotting) and Denise van outen sucks a cucumber?

Love, Honor and Obey... It's as rank as cinema gets!
