odd to consider that the audience who paid to see a Louis CK show would still enthusiastically enjoy the comedy of Louis CK. this murky, amorphous concept of 'twitter' must be wrong somehow! we have proof now!

Yes, comforting to know that people will applaud a remorseless sexual deviant.

Holier than thou.

You would expect his audience to be more progressive. I mean, I honestly don't mind him doing stand up again, I don't personnally agree that him working is inherently disrespectful to the victims. But to come out and say something as crass and insensitive (and lazy) as that, you wouldn't expect his audience to be the type that just laughs at that kind of material in this context, let alone gives him standing ovations.

It's not that he's doing stand up that bothers me, it's the fact he's being treated like a returning hero who the bastards couldn't grind down.

Holier than a sexual deviant and a massive cunt?  Yeah, I'll take that.

Some of his audience for sure was though. He might be still doing standup to cheering audiences but I'd say his chances of vanity projects like I Love You Daddy are probably done.

Um, that's not an audience.  That's distributors who don't want to be associated with potentially reputation ruining people, who might lower their quarterly profits.  Not the same thing.  At all.

His sexual deviancy, as you put it, is not the problem and never has been. Its the way he went about enacting it  and his behaviour afterwards that was the problem.

But yeah, he is a massive cunt.

Now that he knows he has a cheering stand up audience it wouldnt suprise me if he turned to crowdfunding for those sorts of projects.  Whats going to be interesting is how he proceeds with his stand up. Is he going to film it and release it on his site as usual? Will he get offers Netflix or HBO? What is going to be the first TV show to have him on doing his act?

Yes, comforting to know that people will applaud a remorseless sexual deviant.

He's a great comic. People still listen to The Beatles and go see Roman Polanski films, even though John Lennon and Polanski was/is terrible people.

I just find the gulf between how the protesters see the world and how the normies paying for the show see the world fascinating. Do they expect him never to work again? Do they actually think they can convince people that Nanette Gadsby is even half as funny as Louie?

At some point, if you are against the idea of redemption in art, you have to face the fact you're -- at some level, either wittingly or unwittingly -- telling his fans what it's acceptable or not for them to pay for. Louie is there because he's a fucking great comic with a lot of fans and name recognition. People are willing to pay to see him (I would in a heartbeat if he came here), and for him to go away that demand has to go away. Or you'd have to force comedy club to stop booking him (which isn't going to happen). I, for one, feel very weird about condescending to people who they can and cannot pay to see. I'm a man, who the fuck am I to tell a woman she's wrong for paying to see Louis? I'm white, who the fuck am I to tell black people going to see a comic doing racist jokes is wrong? I've still to see someone grapple with that in any meaningful way.

No, it isnt. Why is wanking in front of a woman deviancy and a huge problem? Its not. If a man and woman are together and he asks to wank in front her you really think thats deviant and wrong? You really think people are upset with Louis just because he has a kink? Its the way he went about enacting that kink that was the problem, the rhetorical "will you watch me wank" to women in the workplace where he was in a position of power, the way he tried to cover it up afterwards, saying creepy shit to women in comedy clubs, that kind of thing. Thats why hes a cunt, not because he has a little kink.

Yes, it absolutely is wrong, if it's done as a part of a non-consensual reltionship and by 'consensual', I don't mean going up to a woman, who you're not in a relationship with, and asking her if it's okay for you to wank off at her (and it is wanking off at her).  The answer given to the question of "can I wank off in front of you?" is largely irrelevant, especially given the power politics at play.  It's not a question that should ever be asked of anyone, in that kind of situation.

If a man and woman are together and he asks to wank in front her you really think thats deviant and wrong?

He wasn't in a relationship with them, then yes, it's deviant and wrong.

What are you even talking about?  His kink is saying "will you watch me wank?" to women in the workplace, when he was in a position of power.  If he chose to wank off to porn or wank off to a girlfriend in a consensual manner, in the privacy of his own home, then it wouldn't be an issue.  He got off on having power over women and exploiting that fact to jerk off in front of them.  That's an issue.

You've been a nasty little piece of work from the moment that I first signed up to this forum.  You continue to be a nasty little piece of work to this day.  I know that you get some kind of sick, perverse pleasure from bullying people online because your existence is so miserable, that you feel the need to take it out on people, via the safety of anonymity that the Internet provides.  You are a hateful person.

That's "her" problem, or more to the point, it's your problem.

you wouldn't expect his audience to be the type that just laughs at that kind of material in this context, let alone gives him standing ovations.

I'm not sure there's a 'his audience' anymore. Someone can become so famous that it's inherently cool to be a fan, more so in these little comedy clubs he's been appearing in, where being seen to be 'connected' in terms of who's who may result in undue praise. When you're the household name on a bill full of relative unknowns, you're going to achieve some adulation.

There can also be the conflation that because comedy is seen to be sacred and comedians should be able to say whatever they want, that means that whatever they do in real life is also sacrosanct when it comes to their art. That's a reductive way to put it, but the principle is there. There's a tendency to give a cunt a pass, especially if you enjoy their material, and it uses this 'comedy shouldn't be censored' card to do it.

I totally understand that you didn't intend to let him off the hook, but I think the word has specific connotations which don't accurately reflect what transpired. The way he imposed his deviancy on others is the problem, not the deviancy in and of itself. But this is just quibbling really

It was a poor choice of wording.  I'll cop to that.

The way he imposed his deviancy on others is the problem, not the deviancy in and of itself.

You and others seem to not understand that his deviancy stems from exploiting his power over others.  His deviancy isn't simply 'wanking off in front of women'.  It's 'wanking off in front of women who I hold power over'.  He resents women, likely due to some childhood trauma, and gets off on exerting his power over them.  It's psychology 101.

I hope the irony isn't lost on you.

Okay, so in your warped little mind, me being hateful towards a hateful person means that I'm as bad as yourself?  That's no different to a racist person saying "oh, I thought that you lot were all about tolerance.  Not very tolerant towards racists though, are you?".

I really liked Nanette, cried a lot.  Also like a bit of comedy barbarism, which is why Louis' current direction, provided it doesn't get too political or ranty, could be interesting for me.  A schlubby old man exasperated into heinousness just clicks for me.

(I know this post has sweet fuck all to do with any of the preceding ones...just felt like saying that to nobody in particular).

Mike Tyson was on Joe Rogan's podcast recently and Rogan and Tom Segura must have spent 10 or 15 minutes telling Tyson how important, famous, amazing and athletic he is/was. I kept thinking "but he's a convicted rapist". I suppose some people are so iconic and famous that they transcend their sexual misconducts. CK is probably in the top 10 most famous living comedians, he'd probably have to be doing kids on the regular to be completely finished.

His kink is saying "will you watch me wank?" to women in the workplace, when he was in a position of power.

No it isnt. His kink is women watching him masturbate, Laura Silverman came out with a story of him doing it with her, I think either when they were going out or when they had just split up. Sarah Silverman came out and said he asked if he could wank in front of her when they werent going out and she enthusiastically said yes. He tells a story in his stand up about showing his dick to a girl with downs syndrome when he was a kid. The abuse of power has nothing to do with his kink, it was his abuse of power in trying to get women to watch him wank that was the problem. Hes an out of shape ginger middleaged man, its going to be hard for him to enact his kink, being a piece of shit and abusing his position is how he ended up doing it, thats the problem.

CK is a weird one though, hes always given off the appearance of the thoughtful, sensitive, artist and has always seemed left leaning in his politics and views,  but at the same time can go on O&A and fit right in with the right wing idiots there and is good friends with the likes of Nick Di Paolo.  Ive always found it hard to get a good read of him as a person.
