Die Hard 6 will simply be called "McClane".

It will be both a sequel and a prequel, with a young actor and Bruce Willis playing the same role (wince).

When I saw the title I hoped for a gritty back-to-basics thing like Rambo (2008).

Is a "soft reboot" a reboot with less changed than usual?

It means a reboot within the existing continuity.

I think it allows for, let's say, glossing over certain parts of a previously established continuity. Cherrypicking. Ignoring inconvenient bits.

For instance - apols, hybrid TV/film example coming up here - if, say, the new Picard series of Star Trek chose to ignore the fact that in the established continuity, the planet Romulus went boom (as seen in the Abrams films). Would it really matter?

I looked, and neither Wikipedia nor TV Tropes have well-developed pages on soft reboots. It's something that feels like it happens more often than people realise.

I actually wouldn't mind them bringing back Samuel L Jackson's character from With a Vengeance for some frenemy banter with Bruce. It's going to be a bit crap either way anyway.

That I'd watch. Zeus coould ask "How could the same shit happen to the same guy twice?" and get an incredulous look or a sarcatic quip in response.

Dr Rock

Young Die-Hard vs Young Commando. It writes itself! Save on writers fees!

double desolation. dare i read any more of this?

It's rumoured to feature a present-day McClane trapped in a prison riot, with flashbacks to a Rookie Cop McClane.

I just read about this on news section of IMDb (yes, I still go there).

I will never watch this.  Not even if the trailer is good (unlikely).

Yeah. Whoever they cast as Young McClane can then appear in a spin-off franchise for the next 30-40 years, oh lucky us.

Shaky

The fourth film was bland as hell at best and the fifth was absolutely terrible. I'm sure this one will be excellent, however.

Depressed Beyond Tables

There's a bit in this where they flash back to his youth where he's shown snaking around a school vent to get away from the foreign student. I shit you not.

I wouldn't be surprised if Willis is only in bookend scenes, like Tommy Lee Jones in Men In Black 3.
