Reported drug overdose: http://www.vulture.com/2018/09/mac-miller-dead-at-26.html?utm_source=tw&utm_campaign=vulture&utm_medium=s1&__twitter_impression=true

Absolutely devastating. 26 years old. He just put out a new album last month, which is really good. His evolution from frat-party rapper to serious artist these past few years has been incredible to watch. So much talent. So young. Fuck!

Yeah, I really liked his new album. Very sad. Had a lot of demons. It's a shame that Ariana Grande will most likely get dragged into this, some of the press is even referring to him just as "Ariana Grande's ex".

Underrated as a producer too. Actually, just underrated full-stop. He had a big influence on guys like Tyler, Earl, Vince Staples, Chance. He put those guys on when most people had no idea who they were. Letting them stay at his house and use his recording studio. Seemed like such a good guy. But yeah, plagued with demons and addiction. Just sad as fuck.

I'm guessing most people here aren't familiar with Mac's music. So here are a few of my favourite tracks from him:

Objects In The Mirror: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gbl-IDp1qc

Malibu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlHUpGHJSR0

Grandpa Used To Carry A Flask (under his Delusional Thomas alias): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKpg7bV5ml4

Large Noise

Was a fan of his first mixtape K.I.D.S. at the time. Very straightforward enjoyable beats and lyrics about being that age and having a good time.

"I'm rockin PJ's and no shirt
I smoke weed, eat yogurt"

This is still hurting. I can't bring myself to relisten to Swimming, which is a beautiful album, because it makes me too sad. But I've been listening to his Run On Sentences mixtapes which I don't think I've ever listened to before, or at least not properly. They're mostly instrumental albums under his Larry Fisherman moniker and contain some really nice, trippy beats.

I am not too familiar will Mac Miller, but felt the same way after Lil Peep died under the same circumstances, polarising I guess.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with Lil Peep at all really, other than seeing the name. So that death didn't hit me. Same with the murder of XXXtentacion this year. Though still tragic to lose people that young (even if X seemed to be a scumbag, I wouldn't wish death upon him).

But Mac, I've been listening to his music since he dropped the KIDS mixtape back in 2009, when he was an 18/19-year-old free spirit, loving life and rapping about kool aid and frozen pizza. Then seeing him grow as an artist with each new album, improving as a lyricist, becoming a really good producer, working with some incredible artists, putting out some real weird but interesting side projects, up until his recent two albums which showed even further growth, his songs becoming more melodic and heartfelt. I love a lot of his albums (I'd recommend his latest Swimming, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, and the excellent Faces mixtape), but it still felt like his best album was yet to come, and that just makes it all so much more tragic.

Mac's music was pretty much the soundtrack to my twenties. I probably didn't even realise just how much I liked him until he died. Like, obviously I enjoyed his music a lot, but his death hit me right in the gut and it made me realise that he was probably my favourite artist of the past decade.

Defiantly was super talented as a producer, watch his Rhythm Roulette were he makes a beat out of 3 random records.

Yes. He really came into his own as a producer. He produced the majority of Faces which has some brilliant, weird, jazzy shit. Love the Rhythm Roulette, although sad now when his dad appears in the background and says, "Take care of my son". Sigh.
