Anyway I'm really glad you're enjoying it, and you're gonna love the Zombies maps!

Just wanted to add that another great change - especially with the higher TTK and optional armour - is that assists now count as kills. Much fairer system, and helps keep the old KDR up, which in turn leads to less people dashboarding mid-match (or even right at the end.)

BeardFaceMan

I might stick this on my xmas list. Whats the dlc/season pass/ map situation like?

The new objective game modes are great too, Capture is a lot of fun when you're bored of TDM, and Heist seems cracking, still have to explore it properly. Limited respawns and then cash to buy equipment at the start of each round.

I'm looking forward to party games and stuff coming back. Usually I end up playing a lot of Hardcore (Kill Confirmed) too, when I want a slower, more tactical and campy playstyle. Not touched the sniper rifles yet either, and I normally like to diamond those.

Been playing a lot of the capture maps and yeah, they're a lot of fun. Tbh I've been jumping between those and my old fallback Kill Confirmed for the most part. I haven't actually touched heist yet but it looks like an interesting spin on the counter-strike model, just feel like I need to get a bit more familiar with the weapon set first.

Was favouring the vanilla ICR AR for a while there, but once I unlocked the semi-auto Auger tactical rifle I haven't looked back. That thing is an absolute beast for a mid-range play style, stuck a reflex scope on it and I've been merrily scampering around dropping lads ever since. It'll be a long time before I unlock the better stuff, so might be staying with that one for a while.

A minor detail for most, but I also appreciate the effort they've put into local play options. Not sure it was even mentioned in the run-up to release, but there are split-screen modes for everything and bots for everything but Blackout. Bots for Zombies is very welcome when you're several hours of time zone away from most of your pals and barely get to co-ordinate schedules for a match anyway. Not sure how well they'll fare but I appreciate the option anyway.

Barry Admin

I still go solo on Zombies, but should really try bots at some point.

Agreed with what you said about how well balanced it is, and a noticeably smooth launch after the absolute disaster last year.

They're really focused on not having crutch perks, even getting rid of Jug in Zombies :-( but it does work. I keep constantly fiddling with my class and weapon options to see what suits. Stim Shot is a brilliant perk and hard to give up, but for my run and gun class I'm finding Acoustic Sensor pretty useful, and think it'll go well with Tracker, when I get that unlocked perhaps later today.

Also glad to see much, much less grenade spam. Again, WW2 was fucking overwhelmed with it last year, but here you don't actually get frags unlocked until level 42, and have to give up a precious specialist ability and a perk point just to use them!  This makes the combat much more based around gunplay, and specialist abilities on cool downs.

Vastly preferable.

Barry Admin

Settled on the GKS SMG for now, beast of a thing. I thought I'd be using the Spitfire but it rattles around too much. Looking forward to unlocking the SAUG 9mm though.

I'm using suppressor, long barrel and extended mags, although might swap that for long barrel 2.  Also nearly unlocked the operator mod, so I'll see how that goes. The thing is like a laser beam though, such little recoil that I can use it effectively with no optic at mid range. Bloody love it.

Barry Admin

Double XP weekend, just what I've been waiting for! Unfortunately there's an Ingress event today, and a PoGo one tomorrow, but I should at least get to first prestige.

Just got this the other day and it's fucking great fun! I am getting my ass pummelled constantly boot dang it's so addictive!! Best BLOPS yet!

Barry Admin

It really is awesome, I've been hammering multiplayer exclusively, still trying to get to first prestige so I can unlock the challenges. Had a great run overnight the last hour where I was dominating lobbies, got a quad feed, streaks, just smashing fuck out of everyone, loved it.

Use acoustic sensor, it'll probably get nerfed.

Finally unlocked the SAUG 9mm, about to try that now. Still another 15 headshots needed on the GKS until I get to the proper camo challenges. Longshot medals will be the hardest I think, in fact they might be bugged. Out of 2031 enemies killed, I've had ONE longshot medal so far!

Bazooka

Is it still Automatic Rifles means even grandma can play and win?

Barry Admin

Get your granny to 1 v 1 me and we'll find out bro.

Barry Admin

Think I'm gonna use my unlock token on the Swordfish. Very tasty 4-round burst, I was going HAM the first time I used it. Not played much with the tactical rifles yet, and it seems like a good one to start with! Should finish getting gold camo on the GKS first though, love that SMG to bits.

Glad I've now got all the prestige challenges unlocked too! Should switch to Blackout and Zombies for a while, but still loving Multiplayer.

robotam

I was thinking the same thing about the swordfish. Heist mode is great for fucking about with guns you wouldn't normally pick.

I also love running about with the rocket launcher with extra rockets, faster reload and extra damage+extra splash. It's not even that effective but it makes me smile every time I blast some wee guy hiding behind a doorway.

Tried blackout but it's a bit overwhelming.

Barry Admin

I went ahead and unlocked it, and am looking forward to trying the attachments. It really is a beast!

Actually it's great what they've done with the attachments this year, the way they change from gun to gun, and can give specific perks to specific weapons. So the Swordfish has two Quickdraw attachments for instance, the second one also giving increased peripheral vision while ADS! Then you have the operator mod of "Penta Burst" which also sounds worth a go. Those operator mods are costly though.

I always run a launcher, just the bare minimum, then an anti-air class with attachments etc I can switch to when needed. Taking ages to get the last challenge done for gold camo, you hardly ever see sentries or Mantis' in TDM.

Barry Admin

Doing a bit of Blackout again, finished sixth place with five kills, first two within the first minute or so. Dropped in with two guys, offed one immediately then burst into the next house and won a firefight. Great stuff, still always makes me jump when someone kills me as I'm skulking around though. Brilliant game mode, I should be putting a lot more time into it.

Went on to have a quick(ish) game last night but had a massive 10gb patch to download.  What was the score with that?

Barry Admin

It was the first balance patch. They've also added Gun Game back to Multiplayer, yeoo. I've not played RDR2 in days as I'm really hooked on this again, and am working through the Zombies Halloween challenges before they go. Really, really enjoying the IX map, with the whole gladiator setting. It's a fucking world class Zombies map, one of the best they've made. Can't stop playing it.

BeardFaceMan

I was going to make this the first CoD ga, e ive played since Blops II and get this for xmas but havent they just introduced a load of shitty microtransactions and ridiculous grinding? Something about a choice between 250 hours of playing or 200 bucks to unlock stuff? I really hope I got that wrong because I cant support that type of bullshit anymore.

Utter Shit

I have a £5 Amazon discount code for this if anyone wants it, takes the price down from £50 to £45.

The vast majority of it is trashy cosmetics. War paints, dumb selfie emotes and sprays. No one ever uses the sprays or emotes in game because it's fast-moving, and will get you killed.

I've done 6 or 7 tiers so far and am just ignoring it, even though I'd like the SMG variant at tier 105 or whatever. Zombies doesn't count towards progress but I'm playing it a ton anyway.

So yeah, I'm just ignoring that stuff and enjoying the best CoD in years.

Now I'm torn. It does look really good and pricy cosmetics dont spoil a game too much but I still dont like the idea that by giving them my money I'm saying it's ok to introduce this sort of thing. Even if it doesn't affect me, there's no fucking way they should be charging that kind of money for that kind of content.

Barry Admin

I haven't seen the microtransaction stuff yet - Playstatuon got that as a 1-week timed exclusive lmao - but only an insane whale would buy all tiers. Watch and see how it pans out before Xmas, but as I understand it, you can pay to purchase individual tiers, rather than buying them all as a whole. I'm sure you could only purchase them in order, and of course the best stuff is locked at tier 199 (new character) and 200 (new weapon variant I think).

Anyway, I won't be putting a penny into it. if it turns out you can directly buy items without any loot box style randomness, I might make a purchase here or there. As I say though, I'm ignoring it, and really don't feel I'm losing out. Rather I get the odd half decent bonus bit of tat when I'd be playing anyway.

Barry Admin

I'm playing IX over and over again, nonstop Zombies fun. Still need to really tackle the other maps. Also really need to get back to RDR2, but double Black Market tier progression starts tonight, gnnnhhh.

Barry Admin

I've slowed down to play RDR2 single player (still only at chapter 4, but adore it), but yay new update. Zero seems highly fucking annoying.

New Zonbies map has got me so happy, I can't fucking wait to play it, holy shit! Charles Dance, Brian Blessed, Helena Bonham Carter and Kiefer Sutherland. Could do with Emma Thompson in there but I'll be rocking Dance and yet Bonham Carter as my mains I think, then Blessed for comic relief, and Sutherland for afters. Makes me feel less jealous of all the bastards on here playing Smash Ultimate, doesn't have Charles Dance camping it up does it eh?

Barry Admin

Do it. I still play every day even just to get my tier skip, and am really glad the Black Ops Pass content is now coming out. The amount of hours I've put in is silly, great CoD.

madhair60

I'm really shit at multiplayer shooters but when I play CoD I can usually get some kills and level up and have fun. I appreciate that a lot. Nothing less enjoyable than constant failure.

madhair60

Got this. Not feeling Blackout yet (I find it almost unbearably tense, and I am crap at it). I did laugh when I killed someone with "Slay Bell" by madly flailing, only to hear a woman's voice suddenly chime in "BULLSHIT" when she died. Fucking hilarious.

Jumped on Multi instead and it's as good as ever. Really great, visceral - it's still one of the only games where I get properly aggressive with it, like fucking get some. Will try zombies soon.

Any beginner tips?

Barry Admin

That's great you're enjoying it, make sure you try the IX Zombies map ("experience"),  because it's nice and relaxed and easy. Do the gongs to get Pack a Punch opened up, and when comfortable with that start working towards getting the wonder weapon and of course the shield, shields are a tremendous help. Was it that or MP you wanted tips with?

With Zombies, the crutch perks - now Jug has gone - are Quick Revive, Stamin-Up, Winters Wail and Dying Wish. Tortoise can be very very strong too, ditto Timeslip for some strats. See what you enjoy, but Dying Wish is a must have, and bear in mind the modifier is activated for the last perk when all four perks are activated, plus you also get Speed Cola now too. Lie down in front of perk machines for a free 100 points.

With a new Zombies map, when I'm trying to work it out myself, I always spend a lot of rounds walking round all the edges and tables etc, looking for "press X to pick up" prompts. Stuff can usually spawn in three different locations and you need to learn them.

Wraith Fire is awesome, I usually rock the Mog 12 as my preferred starting gun now, seeing as point whoring has changed. You still get more points for melee and headshots tho, so melee in early rounds and do headshots to conserve ammo and get more points. If you don't like the early rounds being slow, don't open doors for the first few.

I prefer solo, without bots, you might want to play online. Bots are apparently good but in IX I like to do the challenge banners quickly, and they fuck that up. After your 3rd or 4th challenge banner you get a pack a punched Strife, which will really help you out.

For special weapons I prefer the Ragnaroks and Hammer or Scepter. Rank them up with kills and slam them into the ground at level 3 for great effects.

Keep two Zombies at the end of a round, or at least one. I prefer two or three as it stops them speeding up so much. This is the time when you want to focus on building shields and doing Easter egg steps. And hitting the mystery box - don't be a noob and hit the box mid round. :-D wallbuy guns are generally great now, as you will want to grab ammo for them in later rounds instead of relying on max ammos dropping at random. So learn the wallbuy locations and prioritise guns you've unlocked as you rank up, so that you can add attachments etc in the Armory. ICR, Maddox and Mozu are good early unlocks that are in all maps, I think.

Shields will cover your back, watch out for those axe-throwing cunts. Pack a punch your weapon multiple times now for 1) secondary effects and 2) increasing damage, upto a point.  After a certain amount the price drops to 1500 and it'll just repack it with no damage boost.

IMPORTANT: Focus on training Zombies, which you'll do instinctively as a long-time gamer anyway. The main reason for hording them up by running in circles is basically twofold though. Firstly, you want to gather them up to stop them spawning in front of you - there can only be so many onscreen at any one time. Secondly, as they get tougher, you want to conserve ammo, so you bunch your circle tightly together and shoot them all in the head while running backwards, thereby scoring many collateral headshots. This is one of the most awesome feelings in all of gaming.

If you like LMG's then be sure to use Staminup as you'll die from being too slow. "Anywhere But Here" is one of your panic abilities now for when you're surrounded. The others are your special weapon, and Dying Wish. If everything is on cooldown then just stay calm and look for a possible exit, pull your shield out and try to bash through or shoot with it. Throw wraith fire at your feet if it's unlocked.

With multiplayer I'd say Enginneer is a crutch perk this year because of all the gear. If a gun you like has FMJ as an option, run it, a lot of people use armour. Learn where chokepoints are and slow down and ADS or even prefire as you come to them. I always carry a launcher and it's even more valuable this year, razor wire etc = free points. Stim Shot is great, but Acoustic Sensor is wall hax.

Prestige Zombies and MP at least once to unlock loads more challenges.

I'm much the same with Blackout, but now I try and relax more and enjoy the super fast pace instead of creeping around. I still need to play it more, but already put a lot of time into MP and Zombies. I hope you do get into Zombies, it'll be overwhelming and tough at first, but it's fucking amazing when you get into it. Pure visceral shit, just surviving as long as possible against impossible odds.

Let me know how you get on. With Zombies, just try and get stuff done early, you want to be set up and powerful as the Zombies grow in strength and number.

Barry Admin

Oh yeah, and I'd say go Bumper Jumper Tactical for control schemes. Melee on a button and jumping on the left bumper. I still jump a lot as a holdover from Quake, but it's pretty meta now, partly as it throws aim assist off a bit. B or square or whatever for melee is great for Zombies too for the first few rounds or when you get Instakill. Bowie Knife is a one hit melee kill upto round 10.

One of my favourite things to do is to pack a punch a sniper and then run round the arena in circles, quickshotting zombies. Snipers can easily get you in trouble, but yeah, try it! Satisfying thunk for headshots. Keep moving, always keep moving. Learn to recognise the sound of a zombie when it's nearby so you sense when one is right behind you.

I generally avoid nukes as I'd rather have the points from killing the zombies, particularly in the first 10 rounds.

madhair60

This is great but I don't understand some; I'm literally entirely new to Zombies, no idea what I'm doing. I'll throw it on tonight, I read there's a tutorial.

If you have any tips for MP I'd be grateful but that's a little more straightforward.
