That BBC report doesn't say Apu isn't being written out of the show, it just has a vague response from Al Jean, who isn't drawn either way on what the plans are for Apu.

If anything I think there should be more comedy racist caricatures in modern animation. Can't leave it all to Family Guy.

Caught end of tonights Channel 4 episode. Apu was singing in a band but his singing voice was a white guys. Or it sounded like a white guy. Certainly not like Apu.

They also brought back the mouldy Kwick E Mart hot dogs gag. Only much worse with hot dogs floating in dirty mop bucket water and being used as toilet roll holders. What's that all about?

Anyway this episode annoyed me because Homer was uncharacteristically witty. "This back stage pass just became a pass back rage."

And it seemed to both ignore the fact that they know Apu can sing cause he was in The B Sharps and reference that very same episode on the new episode by having a framed pic of The B Sharps in Apu's dressing room.
