This time it's gonna be good. I can feel it in my waters. You'll be sorry you missed the intervening 98 pages.

I was just about to start this thread with a savage title like "Corbyn: 22 (% approval rating)" or something. I'm sure your momentum comrades will give you a big pat on the back for robbing me of that opportunity. Well done.

I'm so glad you've come to help us to understand the folly of our ways. I wonder if you can answer: in which single respect do you consider that we have most failed to comprehend the major pressures facing society?

Billy Bragg having been a prominent left-wing activist.

Though I prefer Kirsty MacColl's version:

Titles are good because they use words.  Words are good.

Why would CLPs vote/water down motions about tackling anti-semitism since the Pittsburgh massacre?

https://www.theredroar.com/2018/10/far-left-labour-members-remove-commitment-to-recognise-and-oppose-antisemitism-from-pittsburgh-motion/ (I know it's Red Roar but still)

This is v bad and stupid

I think it's become almost impossible to have a rational argument about it at this point, the whole atmosphere's so poisonous. The whole shebang is just going to make antisemitism worse rather than better.

I don't know what there is to argue about in those instances. Well, the one with the facebook link I read. It's a one-sided account, obviously, but I can't understand the actions of the CLPs in question (if it happened as they said).

I would add that the conflict over this issue does not follow the left-versus-right stereotypes presented in the media. Barbara Campbell and myself are easily the most leftwing members active in our branch (I was a member of Left Unity prior to joining Labour in 2016 and we're both People's Assembly activists) and we supported the motion. It was the longer-established, Corbyn-sceptic members who opposed the motion. The same pattern was followed a fortnight earlier when the CLP executive voted by eight votes to six against allowing me to organise political education on this topic. The pro-Corbyn left members mostly supported the proposal and the more 'centrist' establishment, mainly councillors, voted against.

Sounds like factional bollocks.

I recently read a thread on reddit, which has a stupid misleading title, but I agree with a couple of posts on it:

QuoteThere is an awful lot of genuinely antisemitic shite excused as "anti-Israel", but there is an equal amount of anti-Israel shite condemned as "Anti-semitic". This is clearly antisemitic.

QuoteI absolutely agree with that.

This, I think, is where the media has a field day. They're able to blur the lines between the genuine anti-semites or instances of anti-semitism in the party and the over-reaching bullshit (guilt by association etc) and then weaponise both against the party.

In a way, the genuine problems re-inforce the notions of the media-manufactured consensus. Sometimes I think it's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy: the more you accuse Labour supporters of being anti-semitic, the more they'll shout "criticising Israel isn't anti-semitic!" and blur the lines themselves between criticism of Israel and anti-semitism just by virtue of social-media and internet based discussions being devoid of actual intellectual content - the meme that Andy Slack posted is a good example of this, I think.

Dick thinks there may have been a crime committed.

I welcome this actually, it will expose how thin and contrived the whole thing is.

Worth noting that it's not the Labour party that is under investigation but the individuals in the dossier, as buried in this news report:
