With the AS can we all please just remember that if you are the type of person to not pay attention to things and get a whiff that there is "no smoke without fire" you are also the type of person that is not really paying attention anyway i.e. they will forget and make decisions based on what is said at electioneering time.

This is patently not true. The vast majority of people do not pay close attention to politics, but many of those people will vote every 5 years. They will have their opinion shaped by the general mood music in the years leading up to it. Anti semitism may not be a priority issue for all or even most of them, but many of the political attacks will stick with them on some level.

Labour are bad with money has stuck, for example. Corbyn is friendly with terrorists, has stuck to some extent. Among Jewish voters of course these AS attacks will have a longer term impact.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

I agree, but presumably you have a suggestion how-to handle this.

Personally, I think it was absolutely vital for Labour to disengage from the establishment. There was no future for them as an austerity-lite party and likewise no ability to affect change while under the thumb of the press.

This means accepting that Labour will be attacked by the media and all across the establishment like an invasive species and any subject going is fair game. This is what Blair would have got if he told them to fuck off. This is what Brown got in the end, and what Ed Miliband got. And the latter two were only mildly left of centre. We have to accept that this is non-specific - it would be any Labour leader who failed to comply with these forces.

This is about more than socialism being evil. This is about the Labour party being controlled and subdued by forces who have no interest in social justice. Labour represent an existential threat to the power and influence of the rich and if they also are impervious to influence then they must be destroyed.

This is therefore, in effect, a war, unless anyone wasn't paying attention. I want a Labour party that calls out crooks, charlatans, thieves, without fear. Corbyn is a limited operator but a resilient one and the bravest leader of Labour in generations. He will do until the dream non-existent Labour MP who has looks/talent/charism/spotless record/communications bskills/strategic nouse/impeccable integrity comes along.

Oh, I think we've lost the Jewish vote almost completely for a generation. It's what the Jewish Chronicle wanted and it's what the Jewish Chronicle got. As far as I can tell, it's a right-wing rag like the Daily Mail, but more effective.

The poor guy is so bald though.  It is a shame.

His bald is sexy bald, like Shoulders and Biggy's balds. My bald is sadly working class years in working men's clubs bald.

Buelligan

His bald is not sexy bald.  I simply won't have that said.

He has inner bald, even if he had a full head of luxuriant hair, he'd still be bald.  It's the only kind of bald that really is unsexy (because it's like a parched desert of pointless void where nothing flowers or grows or changes for all eternity).  I think the ancients used to call it barren, they knew a thing or two, the ancients.

Kind of like when the White Witch was ruling Narnia?

One day Father Christmas will unexpectedly visit his barren headscape and we'll all think "Eh up.  Hope returneth."  But no lasting change will come.

This is a depressing thought.  I hope you are wrong.

Lots, but I think it basically comes down to presenting a simple, but effective counter narrative that spreads through alternative means, like social media.

That said, I've always argued that we need to be able to win in spite of the media/establishment attacks, rather than endlessly moaning about them, like Canute and the tide. You cannot stop them, they will exist for many more years, and blaming them for our failure is an admission of defeat, because true victory can only be achieved by winning regardless of the lies and the ignorance. I believe we are now on track for one such win, even if Corbyn may not be the one to see it to fruition as leader*.

*Not a dig at Corbyn, who I think has improved immeasurably, but just at the fact that this is an ongoing project, and can't depend entirely on his success.

My Clivey-poos is the model for any left wing leader.

You do know that Canute commanded the tide to go back to prove to others his own fallibility? He had no illusions about his chances.

I do indeed know that, and even looked it up on google to confirm it, but couldn't be arsed to rephrase it completely. Canute asked them to fuck off and they didn't, that's all I meant.  :)

Nah.... I think we've lost a chunk of Jewish voters, but there are plenty of left-leaning 'Chronicle-cynical', media-savy Jews who know exactly what games are being played - I'm both related to and friends with such people - they are sick of their religion and cultural identity being weaponised (by media / blue Labour / Tories / foreign interests / et al) for nefarious purposes by vituperative cunts who clearly don't give a penny chew about AS.

Brainwashing, propaganda, smears..... I'm starting to question the effectiveness of this well-worn shite in the social media era.

Where are you and your friends/relations? I have North London Jewish friends to whom this applies. They are on the younger side though, and one said to me recently that his parents had been worriedly asking him about the truth of it all. The generational divide is just as pertinent in that cohort too.

North London and Central Liverpool.

All of them will call out real AS when they see it. They are sick of the PLP BS and hypocrisy.

The generational divide on this issue has been made apparent to me.

It's one of the finest con jobs pulled off in living memory that Israel managed to equate being critical of that country's actions with being anti-Semitic in general. In effect, it makes the state of Israel utterly immune to any criticism whatsoever which is just nuts. How they pulled that off is amazing.

thought Nandy was pretty solid player on QT

I don't like her though, she reminds me of Anna Soubry gone red.  Great if you want someone to wring out their onion for the constituents in front of the cameras, not so reliable in a political dark alley knife fight - that's my take anyway.

Ken Clarke reminds me of Anna Soubry gone red in the face.

QT last night wasn't too bad. Was expecting an hour of Rees-Mogg etc. counting down the top 100 things Churchill ever did, but instead it was actually quite a reasoned debate about what the hell we're going to do with these ISIS people who want to come back.

Buelligan

Never cries though, Ken.  Smiles.  Does a little jazz dance, no tears.

Interesting, i'll bear that in mind. I was just going by her performance on telly last night, tbh i don't know much about her body of work.

Buelligan

I've seen her sidle up to the camera a few times and give her well I'm just a little girl who loves the people of Wigan and skipping but Corbyn shouted at me spiel.  I don't hate her, I think the bigger children probably put her up to it.

Perhaps i've crossed over from cynicism to conspiracy theory but when i switched on the radio yesterday morning and they were leading with ISIS news i just assumed it was a move to distract us from the day's brexit news.

I guess one of the factors for me was that she didn't seem to be knifing Corbyn last night.

Buelligan

Well that's excellent, I haven't watched it yet.  In fairness, she's not in the same category as Jess Phillips or Luciana Berger, not at all.  She's just someone, who, when asked a difficult question, tends to side with the gang rather than standing up for the membership or the leadership.

Is he still claiming he isn't bald and that shaving his head is just his preferred look? A man deluded on many levels.

He still claims that he is not bald on the inside, I believe.  :(
