Just posted this in the songs that make you cry thread, but Townes Van Zandt, Lover's Lullaby.

Maurice Yeatman

I can definitely narrow it down to about ten thousand, but this is an old favourite that I listened to for the first time in a while last night: Prefab Sprout, 'Whoever You Are' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIClNCY2vcI. Probably too saccharine for some, but it encapsulates a sensitive/deluded man looking for 'the one' and has a pretty melody.

Oh wow, those Townes Van Zandt songs are amazing! I've only really heard "If I Needed You", "Pancho and Lefty" and "Waiting Round to Die." Going to go deeper into his discography now, thanks.

Elliott Smith's Say Yes hits the spot for me. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcalJSO6jDY) I know it's more about using love to temporarily stave off depression, but the opening "I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl who's still around the morning after" just does it for me. The idea that she doesn't just fill him with love for her, but for the whole world...

On the off-chance that you'll allow parent-to-child songs, this song's pretty amazing.
