Is there a more confusing, dissonant piece of music in a film? I know Dawn of the Dead had that weird happy music when they are all fucking around but Day of the Dead is a fucking terrifying film and is played straight as a zombie horror.

The first two minutes of the opening theme is genuinely some of the most terrifying music ever (I don't know what you'd call it - scary drums? - but those kind of monotonous, deep, rhythmic drum beats get me every time). After that it becomes very chilled out and peaceful and then the horror music and chilled out music blends together creating a very surreal experience.

What was Romero thinking? Is this by design or did he just say fuck it?

Shit Good Nose

Wasn't it a conscious nod to the soundtracks of previous Italian horrors?  I seem to remember Romero talking about it with Dario Argento, possibly in that World of Horror doc that was made at the same time as Day of the Dead.

This piece of music always makes me think of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Z2DMquT4A&index=4&t=0s&list=PL-l00yKtg8-XCfWAhvup59KM4qkRjsS0R

Do you think they were inspired by the Day of the Dead theme?

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Once the scary opening section is over, it sounds a bit like something from Donkey Kong Country. Regardless, it's better than anything from Dawn of the Dead, which I've always thought to be hugely overrated in general.

Brundle-Fly

Victoriously sampled by Gorillaz on their debut album. Can't believe I went on a double date at the cinema to see this. That opening is still stunning.
