That's really great - good work.

Am I right in understanding that it sucks the tracks directly from the individual Dropbox links, so if we leave stuff there then your app will continue to find the relevant files?

Sort of, it pulls the files directly from Dropbox, yeah, but I still need to add new entries to the json.

Crabwalk

That's super cool, thanks SC.

Great selections so far folks. Very interesting and varied.

Obviously; unless you want to screenscrape this thread as well, which is a bit silly as it relies on us all doing it right.

Doing that in javascript would make me weep, but if I was in work and not busy I'd probably have a crack at making a scheduled lambda to write the json. I suppose the main problem would be preventing any old wag making a post and inserting themselves in the list.

Yeah I was thinking something more like a Perl script run as a cron job to perform the screenscrape to json transformation. But you point out the obvious flaw in this scheme!

I don't really understand Perl, but serverless lambda are wonderful for scripting this sort of thing and python has a nice Web scraping library that makes it painless (my grep skills are mediocre, this is nicer).

Have you set the file to private? Dropbox is asking me to log in, which it doesn't do for any of the others.

Rocket Surgery

Oh sodding fuck. Try it now? I haven't used dropbox since we did this last year so I was bound to fuck it up.

Sorted now, cheers. I'lledit my post so Seb's playlist macros don't get messed up.

On which note: is it sufficient to create a link to the audio file. In Dropbox, a little link icon appears next to the file and it says "People with the link can view the file". Do I need to do anything else?

I just copy the file into my Dropbox folder in Windows Explorer, and then right-click to select 'Copy Dropbox link'. The folder you copy it to has to be publically viewable though. I think.
