Vodka Margarine

Terrible loss. Along with Magazine, The Buzzcocks were probably my favourite British punk band. So much more relatable than the Pistols, so much wittier than the often po-faced Clash. I had the pleasure of seeing The Buzzcocks in 2007 and I couldn't get my head around how much raw energy they still had hovering around fifty. And he did the bloody Tour de France theme, unbelievable. Will be investigating more of his solo work now.

The TDF theme was based on Give It To Me, the B-side to his 1984 post-XL1 single Never Again. He recorded another version of the song in 1988 with his short-lived band ZIP, which is slightly closer to the TDF Theme version (which has never been released).
