This is rather enjoyable, and Peter Bradshaw has gone and called it "catastrophically boring".

It's a meaningless neo-noir with Andrew Garfield as the lead, and has actresses called Riley and actors called Topher in it. Cool right?

It Follows was okay but never really added up to much more than a very knowing horror pastiche that had a nifty look to it. Under the Silver Lake is much better as there are some genuinely odd scenes with Mr Music and a prancing animal girl. About half-way through there's a cringeworthy bit where the lead and an attractive girl are dancing to What's the Frequency Kenneth (you simply mustn't dance to this song) but don't switch-off, it gets good after that and becomes a lot weirder than the usual movie wild goose chase.

Also, one thing about Mitchell is that he seems perfect at casting oddball LA pixie girls - the sort that Mia Farrow could play in her early years. It seems like he's complied all his favourite 90s music, 90s porn mags, and old film references and made a Lynch/Lebowski movie out of them.  So if you like this sort of thing (Digging For Fire, Cold Weather - both superior) check out this self-indulgent bit of fluff.

yes, I rather liked it, especially the scene with the composer. his first film, The Myth of the American Sleepover, was very enjoyable too
