Thanks to Wim Wenders I am now a bit obsessed with this dude. I think he may actually be a genius, but at the very least he is preternaturally skilled. You best watch all of 'In a Box II' but if these three don't blow you the fuck away nothing will. You need to stick with a lot of his tunes cos there's a fair bit of genre hopping. (There is a 'where the fuck did that come from' solo in all 3 of the below)

His voice is just something else: quirky and a bit shocking - like many great voices - but also ridiculously technically accomplished. He does some outrageous shit with it and pulls it off every time. It's as if Tom Waits and Nina Simone had a love child and they made it study opera in the desert, OR SUMMAT I DUNNO JUST WATCH IT AND LIKE IT ALRIGHT

Bumping this because it deserves views, dammit.

Janie Jones

I first heard him via that famous Wankelmut remix of The Reckoning Song (One Day). His voice is astounding but he's let down by weak material. Those songs you posted are meh.
This is an astonishing performance of One Day.  https://youtu.be/A16VcQdTL80

Thank you for replying. I don't think his material is weak at all. Bang Bang in particular is stunning in how many styles and techniques it deploys perfectly. Everything works both on its own and in context.
