I hear you, brother. Christmas music is one of life's great pleasures, a joyous genre at it's best. I don't care how often I hear those songs, they always hit the spirits-stirring sweet spot.

People who moan about the hardy perennials of festive pop are dreary curmudgeons who've chosen the wrong hill to die on. So there.

Hell yeah. I feel the same way about surf rock. Yeah you know exactly what you're getting but I'll be damned if pretty much all of it ain't absolutely GREAT.

I really strongly dislike Fairytale of New York, though. Hideous fucking anomaly of the Christmas bangers.

I rather liked this Sheffield oddball obscurity from 2006. Look at the size of them baubles!

I fucking hate Santa Baby with its hideous capitalist greedy overtones.
What you gonna do with a fucking sable, Eartha? And you were a shit Catwoman.

The Wizzard track we hear today is actually a re-recording from 1981 with a different choir.

You've obviously never heard "Christmas Lights" by Cold Play.

Spector album and Wizzard, as above, plus Cocteaus, fuck the rest.

I used to like 'Fairytale of New York' as it used to strongly remind me of Christmas 1987. Now I think I've just heard it too much, and Shane McGowan's drunkard shtick irritates me a bit.

Wham is ok as long as I don't have to see the video, as George Michael's Lady Di mullet makes me queasy. It did in '84 too.

Oddly, I still like 'Merry Christmas Everyone' by Shakin' Stevens. Just as well I am irredeemably uncool.

Just be grateful you don't live in the States where this is the ubiquitous equivalent of Wizzard over here.

So much so that Patton Oswalt has a routine about it.

Oddly, we don't seem to go for stomach-turning schmaltz like they do for Xmas.

Coldplay? You were lucky.

Fuck a shit.

It's got to be better than the Miley Cyrus one. The lyrics have been changed from "the yellow and red ones" to "the left and the right ones" and it's got her singing on it.
