Yes! Even in those small early TV appearances, Cranston's acting skills/timing really shine through.

Someone has kindly compiled all of the Seinfeld/Breaking Bad actors

Yes, I don't fancy him but he is incredibly charismatic, and there's no mistaking that badass baritone voice of his even when he's playing Jerry's randy dentist.

I never knew Gretchen Schwarz dated George! Or that Old Joe was the guy auditioning to play Kramer!

Compared to Instagram flesh, I do think we've lost something in terms of classy beauty when you compare with the looks from 80-100 years ago.

Evelyn Nesbitt (Looks a lot like Lysette Anthony to me)

Joan Bennett

Gene Tierney

Marie Doro

Rita Hayworth

Bessie Love - taken in 1920 but looks like it could be from Dexys in 1981

JaDanketies

Been said a million times before but there's a discrepancy between what a fashion model looks like and what a Lads Mag model looks like, and the pinnacle of beauty in society is represented as the fashion model. So people who want to sell themselves as beautiful sometimes try to emulate Kate Moss rather than Kelly Brook. Hence the apparent move away from curvaceous aspirational images towards arguably thinspiration-style images.  You'd never see women's forearms like Evelyn Nesbitt on the telly these days.

Is that Gene Tierney the Hollywood star who invented BlueTooth?

Sebastian Cobb

I watched Leave Her to Heaven the other night seeing as it's relevant.

Y'all should check out this Instagram page where she posts all the classic Instagram beauty and aspiration shots but in full black metal corpsepaint

I thought that was supposed to be Hedy Lamarr?

Yeah that sounds right. I thought the picture looked familiar and didn't Google

It's just fashion innit? Ladyshapes With Alan Partridge.

How has the ideal of the attractive fella changed over time? As far as I can tell it mainly seems to have been about body hair. Fewer chest rugs, more manscaping.

Moustaches out, but beards back in now.

Tis true. Hacks joke about womens' bushes disappearing from porn since the 70s, but blokes back then looked like they'd been dipped in glue and rolled on the barber's floor.

and they always kept their socks on.

I'd buy Mari Doro a strawberry mivvi

She looks like she'd be hard work though

poo

That Bessie Love photo is great

Sonny_Jim

Hedy Lamarr was the cocreator of 'spread spectrum' technology, along with her husband.  It was developed to help with jamming of torpedo's (they were drive-by-wire iirc).  That technology is used in heaps of things nowadays, Bluetooth is just one of them.  It's slightly disengeniuous to say that 'she invented it'

P.s She is properly PHWOOOAR though

P.p.s Just looked it up, it wasn't her husband and it was radio guided torpedos

Sebastian Cobb

I'd be genuinely interested in Lamarr's inventing side, she was clearly a polymath but the wikipedia bit on her being an 'inventor' makes her sound like a self-taught tinkerer who did things by chance, which sounds like an enormous disservice.

HED-ley!

From what I remember her husband Fritz Mandl was very coincidentally a munitions manufacturer so some say she may have seen plans for similar sorts of systems at his office and went off from that.

Wow to all of these and the Bessie Love picture in particular. Amazing.

Is everyone fixating on the Bessie Love one because she's not wearing anything underneath? I know I am.

One for Cerys. Youtube science talking bloke and apparent Timotei model, Kyle Hill.

Now that the gender balance has been entirely restored, it is safe for me to reaffirm that I think Aisling Bea is lovely.

I bagsied her years ago. She is off limits to you rum gaggle of slavering beasts.

Also moonlights as the lead singer in Nickelback.

I'm certainly not fixated on her filthy dirty feet.

I was thinking about a grunge band quip, but it was just pipped by the Timotei one.

This thread has greatly expanded my superhero knowledge, mainly by informing me that Deadpool and Captain America are really hot.

I like the indian lass off the wowcher adverts and dr Eleanor Beecraft from GPs behind closed doors.
Thank you.
