No harm meant.

No problem.

I could have employed a less verbose and rambling narrative, to simply reinforce previous points made that despite HMV being perceived as some huge homogeneous, bland and corporate entertainment consumables emporium - it was a decent place to buy records, when given enough space to diversify stock.

Hence rather than always competing with or undercutting the excellent small local independent stores, it did a very good job of complimenting them and serving the discerning music consumer.

In addition I think their business model was validated. Over the years while our HMV grew and expanded into neighbouring high street spaces, it saw off various iterations of Virgin Megastore (which failed in a few locations, some decidedly not "mega") along with a couple of attempts by Our Price plus a few other bland commercial chains.

Went past the closed Manchester Fopp on Sunday and they were open! Not sure if that's the case nationwide but the staff all had such massive grins on their faces.

I had heard it might reopen, didn't know it had happened. Great news - that's my lunchbreaks sorted for next week.

Misread that at first and thought that although they weren't open you could see the staff locked inside all had massive grins on their faces.

Some HMVs and Fopps previously earmarked for closure have had a stay of execution - some temporary, some permanently.  The Bath HMV was originally down for canning and was shut and even started to have its stock moved out, but was hastily re-opened when the new owners found out that there are no other stores for some distance and its only local rivals were a CEX and a small independent which specialises in faith music.  Apparently they have a permanent stay, at least until such a time (if/when) the whole chain gets into a spot of bother again.
