Vermont= worm green mountain

It's reverse-engineered though. I don't think it's actually due to the translation but I might be misremembering.

The Two Ronnies are a watered down Peter Cook and Dudley Moore

Lady Gaga has a known face. For some reason - probably the suit made of ham thing - I had in mind that she had a thing of always keeping her face hidden.

You're thinking of Madame Psychosis from Infinite Jest.

Kind of a cross between Cousin It and Jimmy Savile.

Is it though? Why would they name their online money thing after the Pope?

NoSleep

You don't pronounce those two words the same way, do you?

I thought the "obvious" thing is that Paypal is a play on papal, which I don't get.

What?

Since the N64, I don't know how many bits any console has. P2/3/4 128/256/512 bits respectively? Probably not.

Exactly. What about icehaven?

The pronunciation of that is completely different, surely.

I think computers generally have hit a ceiling of 64-bit. It is a lot of bits to be getting on with.

I pronounce them nearly identically, so which one am I saying 'wrong'?

Paypal=pay pal (al as in albert)

Papal=pay paul (aul as in haul)

Cerys

I say 'papal' to rhyme with 'staple'.  And I'm not going to stop.

Robbing Peter to Papal with PayPal.

Papal does have an emphasis on the first p, but I think both p's are equally emphasised in Paypal. You don't emphasise Paypal in the same way you would kaPOW.

Correct. The dfference is mainly down to the second A in 'papal' being pronounced as a schwa, i.e. payp'l

yeah, really the increasing bits of home consoles was a bit (ho ho) of a marketing gimmick. A lot of the processors reverted to 32-bit word size. They became more powerful in other ways

It's just not that useful to make it any higher. Parallel operations fix the bandwidth issues and addressability isn't going to be an issue in our lifetimes. If we ever need to page in another bank of memory it will be such a specialist need that a larger bus would be a stupid fix.
