Hitman Blood Money remastered

Blood Money is clearly the inspiration for the reboot Hitman games. Sneaking your rifle around the Casino level, becoming the Lift Ripper at the Heaven and Hell party, chucking a grenade into the swimming pool at the Playboy mansion... apart from maybe the Thermal Bath Hotel, it has all my best memories of the series. Couldn't give a shit about Absolution.

Timothy

Man. All that talk about Blood Money almost makes me buy that new version. Shit that its too expensive.

Obel

Oh boy, shooting the bottom of the glass jacuzzi and letting the mark and his mates fall down into the abyss. That was darkly hilarious. I can't believe it got me a silent assassin rating, such needless violence.

Agreed re: the price of the remaster. Unnecessarily expensive. Just sack off Absolution and put Blood Money out for £15-20 and I'd be all over it.

Timothy

Same here.

If they added mission stories I might even buy it for 30.

Finished Hitman 1 and 2 PS4 yesterday. The Tokio, Whittleton Creek, Colorado, Paris, Miami and Bangkok were all amazing. Chuckled when I had to check in into the hotel and the guy asked me if my name was Tobias Rieper. Great nostalgia callback.

biggytitbo

Shame they couldn't offer various classic game levels as downloads for the new game, using the new games interface. They're pretty much all standalone so you could pick and choose what you want, £2.99 each or something.

Kelvin

Can you really imagine a modern games publisher offering whole 3D levels for £3...?

bgmnts

Having to get your gun out to take someone hostage to knock them out is a ballache.

iO are independent now, aren't they?

Kelvin

Yes, actually. But they're still a fairly big (ie. not indie) games developer.

Their attitude to value is laid bare by the cost of this BM re-release.

I don't want to think about how one might re-release one.

That's more per level than they're charges for this current re-release though. They'd probably make more money from people who don't want to shell out for the whole thing too.

Best level in anything ever, that theatre. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Get yourself a cop outfit and start fucking shit up.

It has some tough competition with house of cards, murder of crows and you better watch out. And a new life. Almost every level in this game is a cracker.

madhair60

I'm playing this again atm. Still on theatre. I wrote about this for a mildly popular website earlier and nobody fucking rumbled me either.

Yeah, except for the White House, which is just a bizarre finale to the main game.

Lists the base ps4 version as running at higher than 1080p, which I didn't think was possible.

Just curious as to why Absolution is being slated here? Is it because it's too linear? Or is it because it kind of made the Hitman franchise too casual?

It's too good.

Because it was the only Hitman game that wasn't a proper Hitman game.

Ahem. Hitman Sniper Challenge.

Jerzy Bondov

Hitman Go as well, brilliant game.

They've definitely oversold the 'remaster', this honestly looks like the PS2 version I have running at a higher resolution - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDJFzGR7tRo

Ludicrous they're charging so much for it.

Kelvin

Do you know the worst thing about Blood Money? The fact it began the process of transforming the sordid and grimy aesthetic of the series into something much more anodyne and textureless, with the latest two games looking utterly insipid, visually, in every video I've watched.

The games have also moved away from the incredible, distinctive scores that defined the early entries, up to and including Blood Money.

biggytitbo

Hitman does have a very clean look but also has load of typically Blood Money esque aesthetics, the cellars and dusty, dark attics in Paris, the militia camp in Colorado, the mansion and secret lab in Sapienza, the Japanese clinic and its snowy exterior, all feel very quintessentially Hitman levels to me, visually.

Jesper Kyd's work on Silent Assassin is some of my favourite video game music, possibly favourite instrumental generally.

I'd say the same, but for his Contracts and Blood Money soundtracks.

madhair60

I uninstalled Blood Money and installed Absolution and I prefer Absolution, because it's piss easy. Also it's basically not even a Hitman game, feels more like Splinter Cell. Great stuff

I reinstalled Blood Money again because I want to be cool. No idea what I'm doing in the opera level though.
