Electronic musicians performing unashamedly with tape machines.

I can't find a more realistic picture (with a stage rather than chroma key), where it's still possible the machine was a prop, but still.

I like how yer one on the right is singing with arms folded. More of that I say

The early 80s Human League/OMD 'backing tape battle' on TOTP springs to mind.

The League trump them with two for The Sound Of The Crowd:

Not wanting to be a total pedant, but I'm counting three machines (well, 5 reels) there.

Mr_Simnock

I can see 2 keyboards and 3 tape machines, GET ME

Nowhere Man

Anti-capitalist, angry at the state of the world type music, at least anything that has a chance of selling a lot of records. Almost every popular female singer sounds the same now.

Pingers

Does anyone do that thing still of two singers back to back singing into the same mic, à la Status Quo? I hope not.

At live shows, someone coming on stage just before the band come on, usually a friend or relative of the band, and saying something like 'Well, they're coming on stage now, what a great bunch of lads they are, they play their instruments really well, jolly good band they are, I'm sure you'll all agree.", in order to enthuse the audience.

I last saw this done at the first V festival in 1996, for Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

My wife went to a folk festival and the guy who introduced one of the band on stage actually started crying as he felt so privileged to be ushering them on. He also described someone as a 'smart Alex'.

'Indies-only' coloured vinyl seems to have become the generic limited edition now. You don't get the 7" box set containing 3 postcards and a badge, or limited double pack 7"s anymore. Actually, physical lead singles off albums seem to be rapidly disappearing.

Fan clubs too. I was never in any band's fan club although was tempted by the Madness one when I was in my teens. They seemed to send out quite a lot of decent desirable stuff. Actually, tell a lie, I was in the Pastels one which was great while it lasted.

Dunno Sleaford Mods do alright don't they?

Can't say I'm a fan, mind.

Brundle-Fly

Charity records are apparently banned by BBC radio now. Is this true?

But that charity novelty song about sausage rolls was Christmas number one.

Idles seem to be doing pretty okay, also. Not really my thing, but fair play to them.

You have got me there, though in my defence I had been up for 21 hours when I posted it.

Flexidiscs, for good reasons.

There's a number of small specialist places that press them - for example:

Carvery Cuts
Prime Direct Distribution
Pirates Press

And one of the oldest pressing plants still going, GZ Media in the Czech Republic, still do them.

Flexis were (well, could be) fucking ace. I sold a big stack of them along with some old C86 era fanzines when I moved house and I really regret it now. They, along with print fanzines, were such an important part of my youth.
