Songs with screaming females

I mean it has to really sound like they're doing themselves damage.  Can never get enough of this stuff.  Need more.

The miracle that is Dagmar Krause on Art Bears' Freedom...maybe one of my top ten tracks (although I do admittedly say that a lot). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KYRO5T1voLE

chveik

that's a curious fetish. you being a scholar and all I suppose you know these already:

Diamanda Galas - This is the Law of the Plague  (I like Mike Patton but his fanboys should acknowledge that his stuff on Delirium Cordia and Six Litanies for Heliogabalus wasn't that original)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57p5QnMmBYU

Patty Waters's cover of Wild is the Wind (in the end)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc25yOPFhw4

Laure Le Prunelec screams a little in Igorrr's Tout Petit Moineau
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF5lLMH45oM

I'll try to find others.

Sin Agog

No, man, those are all great.  Hadn't heard dear old Diamanda and Patty for years, and Igorrr's a nice new find for me.  Cheers!

And I assure you, this is not a Videodromey psycho-sexual pleasure I take in hearing women in pain.  I've just always loved hearing them belie that crap myth that still perseveres to this day (especially in rock music) that they're demure and soft creatures.  Totally not my experience.

There's this Italian opera from the '70s that a Neapolitan friend turned me onto which has a fucking amazing sort of proto-rap track by a bunch of livid washerwomen on it.  Was later covered by the Boredoms' sister group, OOIOO, which is a pretty perfect match.  Here's the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4oQxtm0uww

Rocket Surgery

Avril Lavigne

Kim Shattuck from The Muffs has a great scream. She doesn't use it in a lot of their songs but when she does it's beautiful:

Kelly Canary of the band Dickless permanently ruined her vocal chords singing like this - Dickless - I'm A Man.

They only released one seven inch single. That's dedication to your art.

Sin Agog

Cheers, really enjoyed both of those.

A friend used to taunt me every time I stepped up to the mic with tales of singers who'd contracted throat cancer from lives spent belting them out.  Maybe that Dickless girl dodged a bullet by ending her singing career early in one last hurrargh?

Jarboe in "I Crawled" (from Swans Are Dead). still gives me goosebumps.

Have some Tanya Tagaq too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGNpz5tFUEE

edit: just thought of this one by Corpo-Mente : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJEtBYVheB0

Absorb the anus burn

Irene Pappas with pals from Aphrodite's Child.

Brainticket.... Some proto-screaming from Dawn Muir, who sounds close to a lock-groove mental breakdown.

One of my favourite 60s girl group songs is 'Egyptian Shumba' by The Tammys, where in amongst all the usual harmonising and gobbledygook verbal hooks ("shimmy-shimmy-shimmy-shy-aye-missiniss") they decide to augment the 'Egyptian mummy' theme by doing occasional full throated screeches, presumably to denote 'horror' of some kind.

Is nobody going to post any songs by Screaming Females? That's what I came here for.

Bonnie Bowyer? I said Bonnie Bowyer?

RicoMNKN

Noir Desir by Vive La Fete was the first one to spring to mind - it gets more screamy as it goes along.

Ta for all of these!  Will listen to them after the Sunday roast.  Non Cap- Egyptian Shumba's...get this...also in my gargantuan Top Ten songs list haha.  Wrote about it in one of those locked Watchu Listening To threads:
Quote...just whirled through two of the fucking best ever girl group songs of all time, Egyptian Shumba by The Tammys (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er8PN385PEA), which is a raw screaming melodic masterpiece that sounds like nothing else.  The perfect perfect pop song that I once drunkenly did a lounge lizard style cover of.  Also just played what I reckon is Joe Meek's most deadly production, The Sharades' cover of Dumb Head (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UGrFr7wAUc) with its addictive primitive early '60s synth stabs.  Lyrics might sound a bit sketchy, but not really- they're just someone beating themselves up for getting all tongue-tied.  Wish Meek had made more sort of....proto-dub pop things like that.

That song's 80% about the way The Tammys tackled it, but just in case you haven't heard any of Lou Christie's other compositions, it's worth picking up a comp as the guy was pretty unique.

bigfatheart

Most of Made Out of Babies' stuff would count, but Silverback is the song that came to mind.

sevendaughters

Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band - 'Why?'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCb0TsSIqI0

Great bit of guitar playing from Lennon here too.

This is absolutely fantastic.

Crabwalk

Goat are pretty much defined by their twin screaming female attack. Here's one of their scream-iest:

'Gathering of Ancient Tribes'

chveik

got a new one, while listening to the Lee & Herring show:

Skinned Teen - I Had Mark Arm (very fun amateurish riot grrrl stuff)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mMH5cTiR0k

link for the whole split lp with Raooul (there's quite a lot of screaming in there)

Without calling out individual tracks : Fucked and Bound (edit: and Lisa's other band He Whoes Ox Is Gored), Venom Prison and Employed to Serve all have women doing harsh vocals.

And they all fucking rule. How exciting that hardcore and grindcore looks like this in 2019.

Good shout on all those bands. New ETS is awesome.

On a slightly less metally note, the new Big Thief album's opening track 'Contact' has pretty out-of-the-blue gutteral screaming in it. Also the album is really good so listen to it.
