I mean it has to really sound like they're doing themselves damage.

Supposedly Merry Clayton's singing on The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter was so physically straining that it caused a miscarriage.

Has anyone ever shat themselves whilst having a good old scream in the recording booth?

I expect so. this is getting a bit niche now, though, isn't it?

The fucking blisteringly fun jazz-punk band Midori have a singer whose voice effortlessly swings from a saccharine sweet coo to an absolutely skin-flaying scream. Their 2008 album あらためまして、はじめまして、ミドリです。is an absolute joy, and the main opening track Yukiko-san absolutely lets rip right out of the bastard gate. It makes me want to Eric Andre Show the living shit out of whatever environment I'm in whenever I hear it.

I have immediately obtained all of Midori's discography on the strength of your description.

Yeah, I love Midori.  Wish Mariko Gotou* would go back to making more Dog Faced Hermansy skronky pop shit and less flaky soundcloud electro stuff, but those three or so albums are all great, with Aratameshite being a bit of a classic.

*took me ages to work out this wasn't a solo project from a demented schoolgirl named Midori.

Just remembered I uploaded this pulsating, slow-burn Finnish post-punk thing years ago that fits the right profile: 500 kg Lihaa - Roger Was Dead and We Tried to Understand

Much of Nina Hagen Band's self-titled album (coincidentally listening to this now and realised it fit this thread)

Pretty much anything by Lydia Lunch,  even her spoken word stuff.

That bird Dani from Cradle of Filth has quite the mouth on her.

Heading that way... after Ari Upp's scream at 1:20 in the Slits' Shoplifting she declares 'I pissed in my knickers'...

I'm in fucking love

Sin Agog

You heard their earlier incarnation, Usagi?  Less jazz, and more noise-pop, but it's still great in a Shiina Ringo kind of way (and considering how much I adore Shiina, that can only be a good thing).

A late entry to the thread, and one Norton will probably be familiar with:

Heard this for the first time tonight. Singing starts at about three minutes and soon turns into screaming.

Quote from: Gregory Torso on January 12, 2019, 02:32:29 PMKelly Canary of the band Dickless permanently ruined her vocal chords singing like this - Dickless - I'm A Man.

They only released one seven inch single. That's dedication to your art.

Could have sworn my copy of that is a 12".

*checks discogs* - yeah - B/W Miniskirt Mob and Saddle Tramp (for my money their best song - although I haven't heard their TAD cover version, and I really want to).
