Is there a way to block folks on here?

What if you accidentally block yourself? What then?

Thank God. Wouldn't have to read my shitty posts anymore.

There isn't a single poster on here I'd ever block, even the ones who just consistently abuse me. I greatly value Zetetics posts at the good end, and even the essentially worthless, futile and pointless brain farts of Paul Calf, Johnny Yesno and that other guy I can't even remember the name of, job something, are interesting on at least some narrow anthropological level.

Agree.

I may disagree with people, they're rarely worth blocking. Exceptions for posters who are being overly-tedious or abusive which I rarely see here - in fact, the ones I can think of (without dragging up the past and naming names) have been summarily banned so no requirement for me to block them! Kerr-ching!!

Wha-... who said that?! Creepy!

Like a fucking ghost town in this thread.

Bronzy

I've blocked everyone on this forum apart from Bronzy (I am Bronzy) and Buelligan

The appearance of anyone else posting is simply a side effect of the hallucinogenics

Way to spitefully describe the intelligent, nuanced posts of posters who happen to disagree with you. Fuck Off with that kind of shit mate, it's beneath you. You've put me off writing " I still fancy Jodie Comer " in this thread now.

I skimmed the Brexit thread because my insomnia is acting up and fucking hell it's a state. I'm not daft enough in there and be subject to the notifications for that shite.

That jackanory poster looks a right wally. Skipped those posts after the first two, which is a bit like blocking I suppose.

greencalx

The signal to noise ratio in the Brexit thread is now down to less than one post worth reading per page. Very tedious. And annoying because, as has been pointed out, there's plenty to talk about regarding the goings on in Westminster right now without tediously rerunning the 2016 campaigns. But clearly that's not going to happen here.

It's only when I  look in other threads I remember how much fun this place can be.

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Is it worth putting up a pseudo tag reading " Tony Christie enters thread, singing the title " ?

Probably not.

So this poster is supposed to be an elite liberal remainer, into his gammons and exploiting his Latvian cleaner?  It's not a terrible premise for a character account but he's played it way too broad despite putting a lot of time into it.  Also, looks like a weekend project so bear that in mind if you're considering installing your scripts and whatnot.

Could have been good if he just popped up once every so often like Ronalado or Vinnie but immediately went in and wore the joke out in about 48 hours.

I would have agreed with this, but my problem is that I lack the discipline that others have to not respond to trolling.  People have told me in the past to just ignore the trolls, but I simply can't always stop myself (even yesterday I was sucked into discussing whether the moon landing happened by either character accounts or pure idiots who argued that it didn't), and I am fully aware that responses to trolling are as tedious as the trolling itself.

So to stop myself being that prick who always responds to trolls, I prefer to use a blocking script.  I envy anyone who can say "just scroll past!"

Besides, a blocking script shortens a page by taking out the crap.  Faced with 30 posts of HS Art wank in the Brexit thread, it's an overwhelming amount of text to skim through (for me) in order to find something Zetetic, Johnny Yesno or one of the other good posters has said.  I'd rather not have to read the first line of every bit of padding, and simply reduce the page down to 10 posts that may be worth reading.

Scrolling kills trolling.

It doesn't; it compounds seven-eighths of the word "trolling" by repeating it.

"Blocking" only preserves three-eighths, so is better.

Edit:  Okay, so the 'o' is in the same place as well.  One half, then.  Still better.

You're signed up for notifications for every thread you post in?

Mister Six

Does the blocking script work on mobile Chrome? I don't really use my laptop for CaB any more.

Not getting this 'Gaping Britain' catchphrase of his..

I like it because it reminds me of someone's (I think poo's) line about "power gapes", such a plausible name for a pornographic genre that I actually tried to look it up.

I would quite like to work in Gaping Britain.

I still don't understand how people manage to sustain their interest in those huge, endless fucking threads that are posted in frequently every day out of habit. It's much better when when you get more short-lived, topical, focused threads that have been started because someone has something they actually want to discuss and center peoples attention around. I feel like I miss most of the interesting discussion on this site because people don't like starting new threads, and most content gets gated away in "Corbyn #245" or "Brexit #366" or whatever. CAlthough I was obsessed with Trump and managed to follow loads of those, but now I'm just like bluergh what's next, give me the new shit, keeping up with never-ending threads is homework.

Theremin

Not sure if anyone else managed to find it, but the 'Goldfinger' extension on Google Chrome is what you want

I think they only stay interesting if you manage to keep up with them (and people post interesting and relevant stuff in them, of course).  I didn't go in the Trump or Syria threads (other than the mildest little toe-dip once or twice) specifically because I know I don't have the time each day to read all of them + Corbyn threads and Brexit (fuck me, I wish Brexit had never even crawled out of the sea), even though I was interested.  Tough choices but what can you do?

I know what you mean.  In terms of how I end up continually reading the Corbyn and Theresa May threads, I think it's just a process of repetitive and obsessive behaviour.  Without intending to, all of a sudden I am scrolling through the thread again, reading some of the posts and ignoring others.

I don't tend to engage with the news on those matters unless I find it in those threads, to be honest.  That's not even a joke.  It's because even though those threads can be maddeningly sprawling, they are nevertheless more concise and (thanks to certain reliable posters) more useful than all the information you could get whilst wading through the BBC News, Guardian and other news sites that can't generally be trusted in their bias.

If I had Neil's powers, I'd have all sorts of fun looking at people's IP addresses, seeing who is really posting from an industrial estate outside Sverodlovsk, that kind of thing.

That's obviously Shoulders. There's a great little bar/microbrewery there, don't you know?
