Red Dwarf Series I-VIII Blu-Ray Boxset is Shite

Why would he bother doing that for free when so many Red Dwarf fans give the impression that we'd all burn money for it in a box-set re-release?

He said that he intended to record commentaries for the last couple of series and upload them for free online because the likes of the BBC and Dave aren't willing to provide the funds to do it officially.  He's not holding out to fleece the fanbase with a re-release down the road because it's not even a viable option.  Besides, I don't even think that would be in his nature.  He seems to be a guy who loves what he does and on the whole, respects his fanbase.

It is always great hearing from Doug in interviews and commentaries. He did a good one here. It covers starting out with Rob, going solo and the transition to Dave. Fair few interesting stories not heard before in it.
