Crabwalk

Or the riff that comes at 4m07s into Nadja's 'Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds'

No skipping or you won't get the full effect:

'This Tribal Antidote' by Killing Joke.  It feels to me like Hosannas is their heaviest album, although that could be down to a lot of things, not just the riffage.

Cornucopia by Sabbath. I'm not even a fan of the song after the opening riff tbh, but that riff is great.
I wish it was 6 minutes of just that riff and twice as heavy, like an Electric Wizard song.

That one that goes "da da da da da da da da, da da da da da da da da, this is my last resort".
Oh you mean the coda to Iron Maiden's instrumental Genghis Khan, off their 1981 album Killers

Also perhaps an answer is Bolt Thrower - WORLD..... EATER!!!

jobotic

Don't know anything about these and could live without the vocals but one heavy cover of a classic riff.

Thou - Sweat Leaf

Maybe more of a bassline than a riff but so good

Terminal Cheesecake - Unhealing Wound*

*has there been a band called that? There should be

This thread is beautiful lads. Whoever first mentioned Electric Wizard I owe you a pint.

Looking for something a lot faster ans more energy as well though. The world needs more banging riffs.

Noddy Tomkey

I've listened to nothing but Electric Wizard for the past ten days, no wonder that moon's on one.

Al Tha Funkee Homosapien

Pantera - Suicide Note Part 2 The riff the kicks in around 20secs, and from 2:30 onwards (love Dimebag, so many cool, inventive heavy riffs)

Down - Bury Me in Smoke (Dont love Phil so much, but this riff is rad)

Was literally just about to post 4th of July. So instead we'll have the riff in the middle of Like Suicide. I love that big snare hit just before it comes in.

Back to Mogwai

And again

Absolute beast by Upsidedown Cross:

My close personal friends (I drew their logo and my band played with them loads), the much-missed Drunk In Hell:

and whilst not 'traditionally' heavy, the riff to Mere Pseud Mag Ed is fierce as fuck, especially the Peel versiuon from when Country On The Click came out:

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Most of the tunes I was going to suggest have already been mentioned.

More Matt Pike: High on Fire - Rumors of War
and more Desert Rock: Nebula - Sonic Titan

Yes Supernaut has to be there.

What about something like Zep's Wanton Song. That stabbing guitar riff is a beast.  You can't forget On The Tiles either.

There also has to be space for something like Sonic Youth's 100% and the pumpkins Cherub Rock.

Love Me Like a Reptile by Motörhead - in fact most of the riffs off the Ace Of Spades album are monstrous.
