I wonder if the main reason there hasn't been a thread on this fellow's work is that it's really hard to know where to categorise it...

The vaporwave aesthetics make it inextricable from internet culture, but he seems to genuinely make vhs tapes (rather than just mocking up the aesthetic) so he's stubbornly tied to analogue. Sometimes his work is just disquieting, but it has more obvious comedic beats than, say, Salad Fingers. Definitely at the weirder end of the Adult Swim spectrum. He has albums on Spotify and iTunes, but most of his songs are only around 30 seconds in length (more like commercial stabs) and I can't imagine many people listen to his music without having first having watched the videos.

His stuff strikes me as an American variant upon hauntology, less suffused with folk than suburbia. There's def a slight John Mausy edge to what he's doing and more than a hint of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, but the stop-motion is straight out of Will Vinton and even recalls the work of animators even earlier than that, such as Charles Bowers.

I think I'm a fan and I'm sure some of you know him already but some of you won't.

Neil, please re-house where you want if you so choose. Thanks.
