I think a lot of people in Hollywood shill and vote for Democrats like Biden, Pelosi etc because they're famous and powerful themselves. Probably go to the same parties and events they do. Plus they were always better than the GOP alternative. I mean cliches being generalisations if they shilled and voted along their idealogy and 'kind'  they should be going for Williamson more. But she's not going to make it to the next debate.

I know youtube comments and 'social media' give a very partial impression and a small sample, but it's amazing how many 'always voted Republican' and 'I'm a conservative but' people I'm seeing saying they would vote for Gabbard, including under Fox News/Tucker Carlson videos featuring her. "This is the first sane Democrat I've ever seen" etc. It's a very interesting phenomenon. I think the 'socialist' attack word would have a limited impact if she got mass exposure to Republican audiences.

Overt conservatives can often see through bullshit better than liberal hypocrites, who are just imbecilic if their presence on the web is anything to go by. She's fighting the Democrat machine more than Sanders had to, suing google, and disillusioned, cynical people of various kinds are going to like that kind of anti-establishment strength of mind.

It's somewhat moot because the con-Democrats/media will block her chances anyway, except that Sanders could pick her as his running mate  and that would likely draw conservatives to him.

When politicians reference the 'middle class'; are they referencing a British type middle-class, workers, small business owners with decent earnings; usually in the suburbs. Or is it just designed as a catch-all statement for people who aren't millionaires.

Haven't been hearing much about blue-collar workers for a while; which seems to be their version of the working class.

I get the impression this is pretty much it with 'middle class', except with connotations of respectability and hard-work which exclude the undeserving poor. Obviously it's also a good way of avoiding too much like a dirty commie, but I think the good side is that it includes the 'white-collar' workers who are effectively proletarianised and victims of neoliberalism too.

Back in British miner's strike days it was quite a major news story in the US, though I'm not sure exactly how the media dealt with it. I believe it appealed to the Upton Sinclair/Woody Guthrie/Tom Paxton/Howard Zinn strand in the US which morphed into Bruce Springsteen's misty stadium rock romanticism (and of course he donated money to the miners). Bernie Sanders is somewhat in that tradition I think.

I think the biggest problem is that it does tend to be a very male-orientated view of the world and obscures women's disproportionate burden of domestic and caring labour, which is an eternal problem with the left.

I think the major difference is that they are avoiding exposing him to the public as much as possible, because he's embarrassing. They just want him to sail through based on it being his turn. They did the exact same thing with Hillary.

It will be interesting to see how they push Kamala, the backup establishment pick. I suspect there are going to be some positive media appearances arranged.

Gabbard's got Harris's number. Even after Gabbard quits the race she'll attack Harris on Fox News even if she can't get on left-establishment media. Gabbard knows she's got a good shot at being in Sanders cabinet. That way people can't accuse Sanders of attacking a woman (again). Or (now) a POC.
