My guess is the conversation went along the lines of Warren trying to state it was the time for a woman president and as the seemingly most progressive one Bernie should back her. Bernie refuted along the lines of it's not necessary for it to be a female President; which is being twisted/conveniently misremembered as him saying that a woman can't/shouldn't run or be president.

Mister Six

Yeah, exactly. I don't trust Warren not to misrepresent this. Has anyone asked Bernie to explain exactly what he did say, or have they just offered a yes/no question and not probed any further? Although I imagine he doesn't want to say anything else, as he'd only be wading further into the mire.

phantom_power

Has she mentioned this conversation at any point between having the conversation and bringing it up conveniently close to the first caucus?

Warren seems to be really going for the gender thing at the moment. It seems to be the only thing she can actually beat Sanders on. It is pretty cynical
It's weird that a month ago, at the previous debate, they hugged at the end. Now, she refused to even shake his hand. This alleged appalling sexism on Sanders part apparently happened in 2018. So what changed between last month and last night?

kngen

Bizarre strategy on her part - duplicity or inconsistency is not something that even the most ardent Bernie-haters have ever tried to pin on him (quite the opposite: 'He's been saying the same thing for years. He needs something new to energize voters' - the idiots that they are). Could her advisers not see that this was going to bounce off him and put her credibility - the former Republican who put Native American on her college application (not to mention the Pow Wow Chow shit) with, at the very least, questionable claims about being sacked for being pregnant - back in the spotlight?

Wait, they were former Clinton advisers? Makes more sense now. Fucking monomaniacal cretins.

Dewt

Yep, that's what it is. I am convinced that they have concocted a lie and made Warren believe it to her core. It's horrible.

Obama's been hanging with her a bunch since then, hasn't he?

Warren's "yes it happened, lets not talk any more" response is beyond pathetic, Trump would've absolutely slaughtered her...

Urinal Cake

This whole thing is a mess. Fucking ambition and desperation.

Nah because she then transitioned into, 'Girls can win. No election losses for the girls here. Girl Power!' and then Klobacher started fangirling. It was a good moment for the Dem audience.

Was on about her statement https://twitter.com/KristenOrthman/status/1216879913078329344

Her doubling back on it in the debate worsened it though

Dewt

So a reasonable interpretation of this is CNN stirred this shit up, and Warren was enraged with Bernie at the end of the debate and said something along the lines of "you called me a liar on television".

Urinal Cake

Well that statement was also hopeful of a reconciliation. It's clear that's not happening now unti probablyl one of them drops out. Maybe not even that.

She initially tried to have it both ways. Now if there's no love lost she can say what she remembers from that meeting. Sanders has already ruled out he said anything of the sort. But if she was to say something that also reflected badly on her something like, 'We asked the question why Hilary lost? I said she was a cunt, Bernie said because she was a woman' It would make her look truthful. You need to rally the base and media so you might as well try and win the point.

Or she could just tell the truth?

Urinal Cake

She still wants to be President. If she said the truth and it looked bad she would have to drop out. The msm who has largely been on her side would be furious and make any run impossible.

The other thing is  by jumping on her on the way they have, Sanders base have given her and her campaign no incentive to make peace/tell the truth etc because they know it's a lost cause. They made a gamble, it didn't work out as exactly as planned but they have to stay the course.

Urinal Cake

The real fallout will be who will be everybody's second option. I think Warren has spoiled that role for herself. Steyer may move up. But #NeverWarren might fuck Sanders as many Simps (as the demographics that started all this said) could vote for anyone else except Sanders during the primaries and still feel comfortable.v

In the General they can withstand another 4 years of Trump out of spite unlike Sanders voters. But I think it would change the margins not the win/loss. Though losing the PMC would really affect media coverage etc.

Dewt

Is it common practice to keep the mics on and record the output?

Leo2112

Watched the latest debate, has already been said plenty of times but Biden is so, so awful.  Can barely get through a sentence without forgetting some detail.  If he gets the nomination Trump would trample over him easily.

Dewt

The only candidates who would stand a chance against Trump are Bernie and Yang (for all his shit-awful ideas)

Getting brushed off by Sanders maybe Steyer's best move.
QuoteSTEYER: "I don't want to get in the middle of it- I just want to say hi, Bernie."
BERNIE: "Yeah, good, okay."
STEYER: "It was a treat to see you."
Poor Steyer. Just a Billionaire trying to be polite to a Socialist who wants to tax him. Sanders was rude!

But apart from that the audio is not going to change your mind.

Dewt

Killing edit bug that keeps saying Steyer is good

I dunno if he will, he's a kind of stubborn senile old man that probably rattles Trump a bit.

The bigger issue is he'll just be shite, hitting the pause button for 4 years until the next GOP seize of all three branches of government.

That headline though.

So, Warren has fucked herself. I personally don't share the worries about Bernie supporters being rude about Warren on social media. Because
1) Twitter isn't important
and
2) Most of the people acting upset never wanted Bernie in the first place. They are fixated on a woman becoming President and nothing else will move them from that position. It doesn't matter to them that Bernie could be the first Jewish President; I mean, they were complaining about "Obama bros" back in 2008. The worst thing that's happened so far is that Bernie lost the support of John Legend, which sums up how irrelevant this stuff is.

The bottom line is that people hate Hilary Clinton, and Warren has done everything she can to appear more like Hilary Clinton.

Urinal Cake

Outside the media narrative, Warren's real use now is as a progressive beard for Biden or Klobacher. Whatever the fans want -a Warren endorsement of Sanders seems almost useless it won't buy forgiveness from Bernie Bros-, the pundits will turn on her etc- there will be some high level policking to make sure there's a deal. She still carries what 5-10% of the vote?

But she's probably finished.

Bernie Bros
I do wish people who wanted to be taken seriously would stop using this term. It's meaningless - there were Obama Boys back in 2008, and every politician in US history has portrayed the supporters of their opponent as a mob that the candidate must waste time apologising for, distracting people from policies. It's kind of boring. Who are the Bernie Bros? Who's their ringleader?

Urinal Cake

The only person to complain about me calling Warren supporters Simps was Marquis and that was because they thought I was an upset Warren fan and was being prissy.  It's always cool to rag on somebody else's supporters. Simps, Bernie Bros-, K-Hive etc people just need to deal.  Add to the fact Bernie Bros have had 4 years to do something about it like I don't know.

The bias I have is that I've got money on Warren to win the the nomination. But I'd like Sanders to win the presidency then Gabbard and lastly Warren. The issue that concerns me first is foreign policy.

Dewt

It is time to stop saying simps now.

Urinal Cake

I don't know how simps got into the vocabulary. I think podcasters met enough Warren people that were crypto-Sanders and thought calling them out would change them? Anyway Warren's base will become important again once she drops out.
